Highly recommended for mainline-and-progressive-evangelical-type churches
I'm a big fan of Brian McLaren and all things emerging, so I was looking forward to showing this to my Sunday school class. I was not disappointed. Phyllis is an engaging conversational speaker and makes a fascinating historical/theological argument in this DVD. The series is designed to last 6 weeks, but could cover up to 12 weeks. The members of my Sunday school class have enjoyed the DVD so far too.
It's the only DVD/workbook program on emerging Christianity that I'm familiar with. Phyllis Tickle is coming from a mainline Protestant background and a mainline church in Denver hosts her speaking and the follow-up conversation of a focus group so she addresses the emerging conversation from the perspective of mainline history and biblical scholarship. For that reason, group leaders from a more evangelical background might want to review the sessions before showing them to their groups.
No matter what your background, though, leaders will want to get this 6-week program for their Sunday school class and theological discussion groups.
