I definitely enjoyed reading this. From the beginning Amaranthe lured me in with her rigid way of following the rules, her strong personality and the subtle humor the author added to her character throughout the book. I felt like this book was a non-stop adventure that I couldn't put down. I enjoyed all the characters, but my favorite was Sicarius of course. He brought a sense of mystery and wonder that made me want to know what was around the next chapter. The story was fantastic with all the twists and surprises throughout! It makes me want to read more adventures about them!

This novel might have a story, but reading gets more and more boring, like getting into shallow water until you realize you are stranded. i am stranded on page 350. With the best intentions to finish the book, i gave up - exhausted. One reason is definitely the story itself, it's missing depth and action. The characters and scenes are very poorly developed. I like to get an idea or picture of a character, place or time; the author is not able to bring the story alive; especially fantasy novels could give so many possibilities, this book feels cheap and empty. The book is poorly written too.
A children's fairy tale has more edge than the Emperor.
If you want to waste your time, please read the book and get bored.

    sooooo awwwwwsome!

I couldn't put it down. Most stories now a days don't have this much action. So it is a great relief to read one. Can't wait to read the next.

Very Original and Refreshing! Highly Recommended for Fantasy Readers.

Well, I read a ton of all types of fantasy and have pretty high standards for the genre, but I L-O-V-E-D this book. The steampunk-esque elements make it unique, though it keeps all the best aspects of traditional high fantasy as well. And I loved the characters--the #1 most important factor to me in enjoying a book. I really hope it will be the first in a series, and you'd better believe I'll be snapping up the rest as soon as they come out.

    Review

Over 700 pages of a fun ride. A well trained assassin, military double agents and others out to overthrow the Emperor - up against a rag-tag group lead by an enforcer (police officier) that have banded together to save the Emperor. There is a touch of magic. People who enjoy mystery and intrigue as well as those that enjoy action or fantasy and good character and place description will like this book. It is a real page turner.

    Buroker is Amazing!

Honestly, I cannot believe what I just read. I read a high-quality, extremely entertaining book for a fraction of the cost of most books. The characters were enticing, the story was engrossing, and the action was exciting. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series and anything else Buroker writes.

I implore - nay - DEMAND you read this book!

    Amazing find!

I was looking for something fresh from my normal sci fi material and stumbled upon this gem. The story is engaging and the characters are very charming and intresting. Pick this up if you are a fan of steampunk or fantasy.

The Emperor's Edge kept me on the edge of my seat. It has the perfect balance of politics and fantasy, and the character relationships were amusing and believable. Even the unique character names added to the flare of a different kind of world where magic may or may not be practiced and no one can be trusted. Despite not being sure exactly how some names were pronounced, the characters' personalities fit well with their given names.

Amaranthe, the ex-Enforcer and main character, was definitely admirable. She was a natural born leader, even though her efforts to save the empire had her resorting to illegal activities. She was extremely good with people and her new cohorts understood how focused she was. When her actions led to more trouble she never toyed with the idea of giving up or beat herself up to do better next time. She took everything at face value and learned from her mistakes. Her slightly skewed honor system made the story exciting.

I can't wait to continue the EE Series, joining Amaranth and the Emperor's Edge as they work towards exoneration from Emperor Sespian. The story's undercurrent of romance gives me hope that there's more than just action and adventure to look forward to.

    Great book

This is another amazing book by Lindsay Buroker. I absolutely love this book. They are long books, but they are not long and boring. They leave just enough of a cliff hanger to want to read the next one. I was never bored reading this book the first, second, or third time i read this.

I loved Amaranthe - she was a fun, strong female lead. Her back and forth with Sicarius was fun to follow through the book. I loved the adventure and thriller aspect of this book. The team they put together to execute their plan was awesome.

    Imaginative & Funny!

Awesome book! Great, fast paced read. One of the best things about this book is that the writer manages to keep your attention while keeping it clean. Good job!
I gave copies to my mom, my granpa, my 23 & 24 year old sons, & my 14 year old niece. Everyone loved it and they are all pestering me for more books by this author, (get a real job & buy your own, guys)!
