This was a sort of fun, sort of crazy, sort of suspense, romance

This was a sort of fun, sort of crazy, sort of suspense, romance novella. At a recent conference they were talking about something called Romagic Comedy and I think this is what they mean. There was this humorous undercurrent to the story where we had Fairy Esmeralda, Imp Rumpelstiltskin and this whole parallel universe thing happening with Fairy enforcers being sent to make sure humans get their fairytale ending.
Essie and Rump are supposed to get Melanie together with Frog Prince Gabe, a gentle giant with an obsession with turtles. Unfortunately, Cole heads Melanie off at the pass and Gabe doesn't have a chance. In the meantime Melanie is trying to get the goods on her wicked stepfather Lionel because he's beating up on her sleeping beauty of a mother.
This was an entertaining read but it took a while to get into the flow of things with the whole Fairy-tale framework. I'm assuming that it will be this that is the common denominator in the rest of the series.
The romance itself was sweet even though there really wasn't a lot to it. In a novella length book with several chapters taken over by fairies there isn't a lot of room. But the characterisation was well done and I got a good sense of the main protagonists.
