    Top Notch Traditional Tension

This was only Chase's second romance, yet she already showed a rare talent for "promoting" a secondary character/villain to hero status. Three years after being packed off to India, Basil Trevelyan is somewhat ashamed over his dastardly actions in Isabella, has gained a lot of useful experience in solving problems, and is considerably richer. But he's still delightfully devious and witty--a state of affairs that does him no good at all when he falls in love for the first time, but which is certainly enjoyable for us. Basil has no trouble at all dealing with the tangled situation of Alexandra Ashmore, who is burdened by too many fiances, none of whom she wants; it's convincing her that he's husband material that's the tricky part.

I love Basil -- he's almost up there with Georgette Heyer's amiable snake Randall, from _Behold, Here's Poison_ -- and I loved watching him fall. I'm not entirely sure Alexandra is good enough for him, but at least she appreciates him. This is a "traditional" Regency -- i.e., no sex -- but the tension is awesome.

    Charming story

Liked the story. Loved the fact that it wasn't full of 20 page descriptions of XXX sex. Dialog was sort of stilted and off putting.

    Absolutely adorable!

This was such a fun book. Basil is the kind of rake I love to read about - witty, smart and devilishly adorable. He and Alexandra made the best couple I've read in ages.

    Great Story

Isabella is the book and story line that comes before this book. It may be helpful to read it first although I think this one is much better.
