Ernie Harwell was one of the most prominent sports figures in Detroit and in baseball history. Although he was a famous sports announcer for the Detroit Tigers, he also wrote a novel with the help of the Detroit Free Press and wrote a story about the past stories in baseball that he remembers very well. This novel is an autobiography. The main reason Harwell wrote about past stories of baseball in this novel is because baseball was a very important part of his life and decided to write about it.
This novel does not go in any specific order with chapters and such. It mainly is just little short stories that Ernie has found important or interested him in his life. One of the many things he talks about is Opening Day which is a holiday for the people who love baseball. The story he talks about dealing with opening day is the eight ballpark commencements he has attended and how at Comerica Park, opening day was his first time seeing the new field. He sat in the press box and there he announced the Tiger game over the radio. In my opinion, this book kept me well entertained and I thought it was a really interesting novel. This book did not really have any issues because it just described past stories that Harwell remembered or loved from his baseball career. If you love baseball and are a fan of sporting legends then this is the perfect book for you.
