A Tiger's Life~ Chapter 3

3 months later. I woke up to the scent of cow meat. I stretched, and yawned. I slowly got to my paws, eager for some more cow meat. I quickly sniffed around, and brought myself to a opened door( I had learned the word,"door" over the months). With my toungue hanging out, I saw the precious food just standing in the middle of the room. I pounced on the cow meat, greedily chewing up the delicious meat. Suddnly, 5 people stepped out of the darkness. They were holding these weapons. My parents had told me that they could instantly put you to sleep. Frantically, I tried to attack one of them. I pouced on one, and clawed them. Screaming, the man collapsed to the floor. I rammed my shoulders to the next one. He smashed into the wall. I was about 110 pounds and 4 feet so it probavly hurt alot. I looked around only three more to go. The next one tripped over the others and stayed still on the ground. Quickly, I turned towards the remainding twi. I got ready to pounce at them, but i was too late. They both fired two quick shots. I immediately felt drowsy. Before I slipped away into darkness, I felt sad, dissapointed. Not because I was probably going to a zoo. Because the two people who had shot me were my caretakers.

"Wake up. Wake up!". A male man was standing in above me. He splashed dirty ice cold water on my face. Growling, I sprang to my feet. I tried to attack him, but it seemed that I was chained to the wall. "Now, now. We don't want to get all messy here, do we. We gotta get through alot of stuff today". Still growling, I backed away. The man laughed and said, "There will be punishments for not obeying. You probably can't understand me, but you'll learn. Now I'm going to unleash you, but don't do anything stupid." As he stuck a key in my metal collar, I felt the weight off my neck. At the right moment, I pounced on the man. But quick as a rabid snake, he brought out a whip and lashed my face. Whimpering, I fell to the floor. He whipped me again, on my side. He whipped me three more times on the face. I cowered against the wall. He came up to me and kicked me with his iron toe boots. I took the pain, feeling so powerless. He whispered, "Hurts, doesn't it. You'll get used to it."

    Great read

Part of the Hearts from Ashes anthology. I only read one other story by JL Langley and they were not tied together at all - totally stand alone except for the name of the bar.

This was an interesting short story with one MC already in a committed relationship - I was glad the author handled that without any cheating on the MC's part.
