┬┐Purses, Parties and Perpetrators┬┐ Haley Randolph has had her

    “Purses, Parties and Perpetrators”

Haley Randolph has had her share of ups and downs—first, losing her job as a corporate event planner, then breaking up with her “Totally hot” boyfriend, Ty Cameron. It seemed the only constants in her life were her love of purses and chocolate, her BFF Marcie Hanover and her part-time sales clerk job at Holt’s Dept. Store. With her 25th birthday fast approaching, she decides (while in “Break-up Zombie-land”) to enroll in some online courses, volunteers to be the Fashion Show Coordinator for Holt’s, (Much to her fashion-savvy dismay), find her ex-Beauty Queen Mother a new housekeeper and, last, but not least takes Marcie’s advice to go for an interview at “LA Affairs”, a very prestigious event planning company, catering to the rich and famous. She is also in search of the hot, bejeweled purse of the season, “The Enchantress”. Haley gets hired quickly—maybe, too quickly? She discovers she’s filling a position that is vacant due to the death of the former Assistant, Jewel, (Could this be an omen of things to come?) and her Supervisor, Vanessa Lord instantly hates her—with the feelings quickly becoming mutual. Haley’s only in the position for a day when nasty Vanessa plunks down a huge file for a party at the home of Hollywood Hotshots, Sheridan and Talbot Adams—and, not just any old party—a Beatles’ themed party—complete with 2 irritating experts named “Eleanor and Rigby”! She knows her future with the Company depends on the success of this event, You would think, all of this chaos would keep her mind off her ex-boyfriend Ty—Wrong! Thoughts of him keep creeping back, making her heart hurt. Haley goes through Jewel’s notes and finds that Sheridan Adams has requested a special cake from none-other than the “Bakery to the Stars”—“ Lacy Cakes”. She goes to the establishment to finalize details, only to find someone has been there before her—the murderer! Even though Haley’s the one who made the discovery, cranky curmudgeon/Detective Madison fingers her as a suspect. Haley quickly dons her sleuthing cap to clear her name and solve other crimes as well. I enjoyed getting re-acquainted with Haley, Marcie, the “Queen Mother”, Detectives Madison and Shuman, hunky PI Jack Bishop, ex-boyfriend Ty Cameron, and even scary but savvy, Mike Ivan makes an appearance. There are quite a few new personalities who we are bound to run into in the future. All in all, it’s an easy, enjoyable cozy--the only thing I didn’t care for is the repetition of some facts—it gets rather old and annoying. However, I’m looking forward to Haley’s next adventure so we get some answers to the story’s dangling questions. Nancy Narma
