An excellent book about establishing real relationships

In this book, John Ortberg discusses what it really means to be in a true community. Not just a group of people that you hang out with, or work with, or any of the normal 'community' things people normally think of. John Ortberg is instead writing about developing a true emotional and spiritual intimacy between you and other people that allows you to truly be yourself and accept others as who they are, not as who we want them to be. I don't care who you are, something in this book will kick your tail. It is very convicting to look at my own relationships and realize that sometimes I'm 'friends' with people because of what they can give, not because of who they are. The author's use of various scripture passages, especially ones from the gospels of Jesus Christ, works very well as a tool to get his message across. He also uses general stories from people he has known to provide a more 'modern day' backing to his points. The whole thing is just put together so well, and it reads so fluidly, that you can't help but get caught up in the desire to do a better job of dealing with people in your life as they are, and trying to love them in the way that Christ loves us.

    This book is about YOU!

One of the most compelling and thought-provoking books that you'll ever read about everbody else but mostly YOU.
