Far from everything you need to know about being a vegan
While I wouldn't expect one slim book to contain everything you need to know about veganism anyway, the author certainly could have done a much better job with the amount of space that she had. Begin with the front cover - an unenthusiastic girl sits down to a boring-looking meal of unseasoned broccoli and red bell peppers. If the reader's aren't turned off toward veganism by that, they will be by the time they get into the book's content. The author uses the words 'vegan' and 'vegetarian' interchangeably, a mistake that many vegans work to eradicate. The book fails to provide any information about the history or philosophy of veganism, and will leave readers confused about the movement's goals and purpose. When you turn to the back cover, you will see that the author is a vegetarian and not a vegan, and may not have a strong understanding of all aspects of veganism. I understand that this is a youth title, but I believe that kids are capable of understanding far more complex information than this book offers them. Was this review helpful?
