    good read

A well written continuation. Enough action to keep you reading. Unlikely that zombies go with superheroes, but Clines does an excellent job. Well worth it.

Ex-Patriots continues the story of the survivors from the mount.

Ex-Patriots continues the story of the survivors from the mount. Written in the same style as the first book in the series, book 2 adds some additional characters and villains as well. The book offers a good amount of action without any character development, essentially when you want to be a mindless reader reading about mindless zombies this is your book. Fun action without getting too deep.

Super heroes meet zombies = rock vs. hard place. What a great combination that, although seemingly unrealy, is made very real by the writing and action.

Fun sequel to a great series

The first book Ex-Heroes suceeded on novelty, fun characters and an interesting setting because, let's face it, when the world ends your story has to take place someplace cool. In the case of Ex-Heroes it was an abandoned movie studio in the middle of Zombie-filled LA. Ex-Patriots is great and fun follow up to the first book but it lacks in one really crucial area - the setting. Placing the book mostly on a deserted military base in the middle of the desert does a great disservice to an otherwise fun story. The characters are still great, the villians are bigger, there are more twists, but there is a significant letdown in the new locale and the folks that inhabit it. Overall still highly recommended

Better than the first book in the series, but it didn't fix any of the problems I had with the first one ether.

Better than the first book in the series, but it didn't fix any of the problems I had with the first one ether. The flashback chapters are still present, and feel like they're dropped in specifically so the author can extend a cliff hanger ending from the previous chapter. I think I liked the flashbacks a little better this time because they were helping to give back story on characters that weren't the main characters this time. They expanded on characters that weren't already going to be given major time in the spotlight. Although I could have done without the chapter in the mind of the psychotically misogynistic soldier. I didn't catch on to which character that was supposed to be, so I don't even know if I should have been happy to watch him die in some way.

The author also continues to telegraph his plot twists. I this is the first time I can remember ever encountering a "Chekhov's Super". And while he tries to disguise a second twist behind the guise of experimental side effects, there was enough evidence I think to catch on long before the reveal comes. The only twist that did work for me was the one I probably should have seen coming given the mixture of superheros and zombies of this series. But I was just as clueless as the main characters.

Definitely going to pick up the next book in the series when it's released.
