Cinderella and her Prince Charming make just that - a charming modern day twist on an old classic. Cindy, a janitor who cleans executive offices crashes a ball given by a major corporation where she meets Thorn Prince, a high-ranking executive. For one night, they have a special moment in time. And just like the original Cinderella, she leaves behind a part of her (besides her heart, obviously!) - her mother's pearl comb. Assuming that she works for his company, Prince sets out to find her, but to no avail. She reappears in his life to reclaim her lost comb only to disappear again.

Cindy and Prince's story is sweet and charming but ultimately a bit shallow and full of fluff. Still, as a short story with limited time to fully develop characters, it was a truly charming read.

The second story was a different matter. Some Kind of Wonderful is a modern twist of Beauty and the Beast but reads more like Hades and Persephone. John McFarland has business dealings with Judy Lovin's father. When it appears her father's business venture will fail without assistance from McFarland, McFarland offers to rescue the business in exchange for Judy's presence on his secluded island. The father, naturally, refuses. Yet, Judy decides to go on her own since her love for her father is that deep. While a free-prisoner on his island, McFarland treats Judy abysmally. Yet the reader is supposed to somehow see that through his hard exterior lies a soft interior. And because of that soft interior, the reader is supposed to forget that McFarland is essentially holding Judy hostage on his island. I never really connected with either character because it was hard to find McFarland's redeeming characteristics.

And so, with Cindy and Prince's story ranking a four out of five stars and Judy and McFarland's story ranking a two, this book averaged a three out of five stars for me.

    Adult Fairy Tale

This book is a fairy tale for adults. There is no magic wand, but there are fantastic coincidences. This is a lovely guilty read in the winter since the are so hopeful and not uncomfortably raunchy. I say guilty since it is fiction, I am not learning anything, and it is based on the fairy tales I loved as a little girl.

    Love These Stories!

I love these fairy tale stories. The first one is a Cinderella story and the second Beauty and the beast. I though they stayed pretty close the the original stories though in a modern setting. They are light and leave you with a warm fuzzy feeling. I need that sometimes. The characters share much of the mentality of the original cast so sometimes seem a bit unreal as they should.

    Predictable but well written.

This follows the formula Debbie Maocomber is so famous for making it somewhat predictable. It is fun to see how she intertwines the age old fairy tales in her modern day versions. Even the names fit the stories. I found this a great escape for a couple of hours by the pool.

    Truly awful

As a self-proclaimed romance novel junkie, it is rare that i can't even force myself to finish a book. The first story here was so bad, I refuse to even read the next one, despite the fact that it is extremely short. Don't waste your money.

Modern day fairytales ... quick, light reads.

For the price, it was good. Quick easy reads .... definitely embellished to fit the fairy tale story line. Agree with others that the Beauty and the Beast story was better. It had more substance, depth, and character development. First time reading this author and I will probably try reading her other books.

Nice twist on the Cinderella story!

I have read or seen most books/movies based on the Cinderella story line. I liked Cindy and the Prince even though it was so predictable. I also thought she ran way one too many times. The book was a very good value as you will notice in the store's price list.

    Highly Recommend

Two books in one. The first book is about rags to riches in a sense. Cinderella story - in the end the prince is won!!
Second book - Beauty and the beast. Love conquers all!!
I read this book so quicly and it was beautifully woven in my minds eye! Especially the 2nd book and envisioning the tropical paradise setting. Made me feel great to imagine that!!

I thought both stories were very good.

I honestly liked the "Beauty and the Beast" story better even though she really is kind of his prisoner. It just seemed like a sweeter story line. Were as the "Cinderella" story seemed like it took forever for them to actually be together. I dont know, maybe its just me, but I really enjoyed both stories. Thats why i am giving it a five outta five!
