A perfect example of World War II in this tragic tale of survival.
"Faithful Elephants" by Yukio Tsuchiya is a story about a nuclear bomb about to drop near the Ueno zoo in Japan and the zookeepers in a worry. What if the bomb breaks the cages and the animals escape? They have no choice but to kill and poison the dangerous animals for the best of safety. The last ones left are the elephants. When poisoning and injecting the elephants do not work, the zookeepers have no choice but to let the poor animals starve to death. But at the end of the story, the author gives no sign that the bomb was dropped or not.The story helps tell about how people had to do things in life that they did not want to happen as well as the grief, sorrow and hardship of the time. Was this review helpful?
