Exciting mystery
Grant County Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver finds the corpse inside a sealed box with a protruding pipe near Lake Grant. His former wife and current lover medical examiner Dr. Sara Linton does the autopsy on the victim identified as Abigail Bennett. To her horror, Sara realizes that slow suffocation was not the cause of death, but that the culprit poured cyanide down the pipe............. They soon learn that Abigail was a member of the Holy Grown soybean farming collective, many of whom are former felons. Upon learning of her murder they react as nothing unique occurred, that poisoning and burying a living person is normal. However, Sara, Jeffrey and detective Lena Adam also make inquiries at the local Church for the Greater Good as they begin to wonder if twisted morality involving fallen sisters and daughters might be involved especially after meeting Minister Thomas Ward and when a second buried body is found................. The toughest peach in Georgia (see INDELIBLE and KISSCUT), Sara is actually mellower than usual as this case makes her somewhat introspective reflecting on hiding her relationship with Jeffrey from her family don¿t worry the forensics remain grim and gritty. Interestingly as abortion and domestic abuse are raised to an extreme level in the storyline, Lena also ponders her relationship with an abusive mate. Still this is a Slaughter story so that the police procedural plot is the focus in the usual dark grim suspense laden way............ Harriet Klausner

Draggy
This book just drag on & on & on. The ending took forever. A waste of time for me. Too many characters with nothing to say.

remarkable
Karen Slaughter slowly brings the reader in by dangling her two main caracters in front of you. just giving the reader a taste of what is to come, then dives into the murder mystry that infuses the story toghther. all the while showing you the complicated relationship between the town corrner and the police chieff.

Distressing
It was my first Slaughter book. From the get go, every character was a basket case. Sara never gave reasons for taking Jeffery back, Rena was a total mess, Becca was a misfit, everybody had a miserable life, etc etc. No one had any indication of a simple life. I was stessed out reading it from start to finish. The story didn't flow well and you felt compelled to tell the characters to straighten themselves out for crying out loud. If this is Slaughters line of material, then I would rather stick with J.D. Robb and Nora Roberts since there is some semblence of normalcy in the stories somewhere.

J.Barton, Confirmed Slaughter Fan, Feb, 2006
Back to Grant County, Georgia where Medical examiner, and town Ped, Sara Linton along with police chief & Ex Husband Jeffrey Tolliver while out for a walk around a lake stumble over a metal pipe sticking out of the ground. Under the pipe they find the remains of a young girl who had been buried alive. This story continues with all the beloved characters that you just can't get enough of. Especially Lena Adams who finally comes to her senses. Faithless is well done, and filled with suspense. It's a story that will rip you thru all your emotions and keep you glued to the pages until the very end! Karin Slaughter makes some silly errors in some of her discriptions of items during discovery, but she doesn't evade the hard issues. Nor is she evasive in her character's relationships. Her grasp of how we 'really feel' sometimes makes me wonder if she sleeps much with all this stuff swirlling around in her head. All this stuff makes her one of the best new authors in the business. If you want an intriguing story that will keep you engaged, then this book is it.

Loved it!
This was her best Grant County book yet. I've grown attached to all of the characters. I loved how happy Jefferey and Sara are now, I hope that lasts. Lena can be very annoying but I do like her, she makes the books interesting. The murder mystery in the book was good but I knew who the killer was from the moment I met him. I loved this book. I can't wait for the next one. Karin gets better and better with each new book.

great but overwhelming at times
I agree, this was a great book--every conflict and every character is covered by the end, and unlike some other intense novels, you are never left wondering about a disappearing character. It can be a little overwhelming when you first start reading the book...I know I wondered if anything GOOD was going to happen to any of the characters, but it all works out in the end.

An Outstanding Story!
This book takes us back to Grant County, Georgia where Medical examiner Sara Linton and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver stumble over a girl who had been buried alive. This story takes you back to all the beloved characters that you just can't get enough of. Faithless is a fabulous suspense book that will take you thru all ranges of emotions and keep you riveted to the pages until the very end! Karin Slaughter doesn't shy away from hard issues or difficult relationships and her grasp on human nature and human emotion's make her one of the best authors in the business and her books some of the best I've ever read. I can not say enough good things about this book! If your looking for a interesting, intriguing story that will keep you engaged until the very end, then this book is for you.

Not to be missed!
I loved Karin Slaughter's latest Grant County novel, Faithless, and recommend it wholeheartedly. Faithless is a mystery and thriller, but more than anything it is riveting, well-written fiction. The characters we have grown attached to, Dr. Sara Linton and her family, her ex-husband and current lover, Police Chief Jeffrey Tolliver, and Detective Lena Adam become even more believable and true-to-life in Faithless. The plot is intriguing and complex, and painful issues like domestic abuse, fringe religious groups, and abortion, play key roles. I simply could not put this book down and eagerly await Ms. Slaughter's next Grant County work!
