    Cute and Fun

Avery is very excited to be getting a new step-sister, and she is pulling out all the stops so they will be best friends. Unfortunately, her new step-sister Blake is less than interested. Until she meets Sam, who often hangs at his grandmother's house right around the corner. Now Blake is ready to hang out all the time (provided Sam is near). Things get more complicated though as Sam starts to pay more attention to Avery. Throw in picking out bridesmaid dresses, chairing the student council charity project, and trying to train the new dogs Blake was dying to get, and Avery suddenly has her hands very full. Avery will have to be very careful to get everything done without making an enemy of Blake. Or Sam.

This was a very cute book. I thought Avery was a very fun character. She was a bit of an overachiever, but not in an annoying way. She really seemed like a fun 13 year old. I thought Blake was incredibly annoying at first, but she grew on me as the book went on. I can see how that must have been a hard situation to be in. It was pretty funny as she tried to be so much more worldly than Avery. Avery was more content to progress at her own pace and not try to be more mature too fast. I think Sam would have been my dream guy at 13. He was smart and funny (although a bit more considerate than I've known any boy that age to be). The plot was fairly basic, but it was entertaining. Avery got into quite a few scrapes, some of which were easily solved. In fact some of them were so easily solved I wondered why they even happened. I guess it did add for more wacky fun though.

I think any tween girl will love this book. It has just the right amount of fun and romance. It's all totally age appropriate too. I had a really great time reading it at any rate. Avery was a bit like me at that age, and I was transported back in time for a bit. So overall, this is a very fun book!

    Very Cute Middle School Tale

I thought that this book looked cute when reading the description on the egalley, and really I can't think of a better word then cute to describe it. I don't mean this in a sarcastic way, but the kind that when you finish reading you say "aw that was cute", and really it was, very cute. I liked the creativity in the story about middle school aged kids, and how they raise money for their student council. It steps away from some of the books geared at this age group, and it is really appropriate and fun (cute). I was glad to have a book I could read quickly since I was down to the wire, but I was also pleasantly surprised. Being an adult and reading this I can't say it is one of my favorites but if I put myself back in my 13 year old self, I know I would have liked this, and then tried out some of the ideas at my own middle school. I was also really pleased that even the "mean" girl in this book was fairly tame, I applaud the author for leaving the cattiness that this age group is susceptible to and not giving young girls that might read this too much food for thought. In the end there are a few points of mean-ness, but mostly fun and good life lessons learned at a young age.

Luv it luv it luv it

I loved it! This might be my favorite tween book by Lauren Barnholdt and I've read all of them. At first I really didn't like Sam but by the end of the book I fell in love with him! I didn't like some of the choices tjat Avery made but by the end of the book I really understood where she was coming from. I loved Blake from the beginning. At first I thought I could relate more to Avery but by the end of the book I related more to Blake then I thought! I highly reccomend this book to girls who like novels about sisterhood and romance!

Fake me a match was a fun read. I read the sample,(reasonably long and worth looking at) and loved it. The author does a good job of setting the scene and hooking the reader in a short time, with a rather un-thrilling start, just by using the perky, relatable tone of the narrarator, Avery. I bought it after reading the sample, and used up a nice batch of time ( about five hours one evening and one the next morning) happily engaged in the story. It was a light read, but very well done for this kind of children's book. It wasn't something you would roll your eyes at and snort at things the characters thought/cared so much about. Indeed after reading it, I proceeced to read Rules For Secret Keeping, The Secret Identity Of Devon Delaney, Devon Delaney Should Totally Know Better, and half of Four Truths And A Lie. Fake me a match wad my favorite of them all, however. I also read all (yes, all,) of Lauren Barnholdt's blog, up until her very first post in around 2002. That took weeks. Overall, good book.
