Fantastic Mr. Fox is well, Fantastic!
Got the book for a book report my son had to do. Enjoyed reading it with him. We got thru it in 3 days! I was really pleased with that. My son (an Aspie) was quick to point out that he did not agree with the fox stealing the food, and he did wonder why the people who owned the "hill" weren't coming out with the police to arrest the 3 farmers for tearing up their land. LOL However, that said, he now wants to see the movie! Book was alot of fun and inspired really good coversation with my son.

My Reveiw on Fantastic Mr. Fox
Fantastic Mr. Fox is a story about a Fantastic fox and his wife and four children and the three farmers Boggis, Bunce ,and Bean. Tey're so evil when the children see them they sing a song that goes like this:
Boggis,Bunce,and Bean
One fat,one plump,one lean
But nothingless equally mean
Mr. Fox has to go to their farms and steal their food so his family can eat.The farmers find out and Bean has a plan to shoot the fox but he missed him and got his tail so Mr. Fox has no tail. Next Bean tries to dig out the foxes with the with machines. They escape. Then he tries digging holes out of where Mr. Fox lives with machines. They ut dig them again! There's a problem though, the foxes are starving. Mr. Fox knows where the farms are from underground and digs right to Boggis's Chicken House Number 1. After Mr. Fox sas they must have a feast. On the way to Bunce's storehouse they run into Mr. Badger ad find out thir are more animals starving. Then he said "Now we most really have a feast".And Mr. Fox and his four small foxes and Mr. badger head out for Bean's secret cider cellar, their last stop, when they come back to their hole every animal was waiting for the feat and at the feast Mrs. Fox said:"I HAVE A FANTASTIC MR. FOX!" Next Mr. Fox announces that he would like everybody to stay underground because they didn't need to get food aboveround anymore because they have underground tunnels to the farms. And as of now the three farmers have been waiting. Waiting for forty years.1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

My daughter liked it....
I really liked the story. I thought it was funny and that it would be a good book to share with friends. I would like to read more like it. I think that people who read it would learn a lesson even if they are not the one who did it. I do love reading and this book is one of my top 15, that I have ever read, and I am ten years old, and in a few months I will be eleven. It is fast and easy to read, and I think that little kids and big all over the world would love this book. And if not they are CRAZY, because I LOVED it. Thank you for selling this fun book. I will get more books like this one and I will hope to be getting much more books that I will like. REALLY GOOD WORK!!! AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

Pretty Fantastic
As with the other Dahl books I've read, this one is full of great writing and fun artwork. The kids made sure to remind me to show them the pictures on every page while I was reading and they really got after me if I forgot.
The characters were lovable and humorous. I loved the matter-of-fact nature of Mr. Fox as he works through the numerous problems that come his way. I really enjoyed the caricature-like portrayal of each of the three farmers that Mr. Fox must outfox. The other members of the fox family are great and I enjoyed the other animals we get to know as well.
The story itself is fairly simplistic and rolled out like an old animal fable from Aesop or others. As such, I think I expected it to take more of a moral high ground. At the same time, knowing it was Dahl, I should have expected the tongue-in-cheek nature that I found.
As the foxes were cornered in their burrow and desperately worked to escape, I enjoyed the dialogue between the family. It was well portrayed and felt fairly realistic. Once they finally had a semblance of safety, it was fun to watch Mr. Fox take charge and go forward with a new plan.
The main detractors for me took place in the last ~third of the book.
First, there is a point where Badger and Fox are talking about the morality of their actions.of stealing food from the farmers. The discussion was framed rather strangely especially considering the general nature of wildlife surrounding farms. While the discussion ended up concluding '<i>well-enough</i>', I really would have preferred either a bit more elaboration from Fox, a bit more debate from Badger, or a general removal of this morality sequence.
Second, when Mr. Fox, his young Fox, and Mr. Badger end up in the cider house, it's pointed out that the cider is indeed alcoholic. Furthermore, all of the animals there (including the child) take a pull off the cider and revel in the wonderfulness of it. Later the cider is taken back home for a feast and there is more joy in its consumption. The alcoholic nature isn't played up exceedingly and I honestly don't think my kids picked up on it (or if they did, they didn't make a point of it)
Third, although we are to believe and understand the carnal nature of these carnivorous animals living among farmers.there is also the strange juxtaposition of a family of rabbits attending the feast. If the food supply was in danger, I can't imagine the rabbits surviving for the number of days that they did. This just felt like a strange inconsistency.
In the end, this was a very cute book with a fun cute little story and was an entertaining read. While it read like a Fable, I'm not exactly sure which direction we should look to find a clear moral. Obviously we are intended to relate with Mr. Fox and the other animals. The farmers are presented as particularly odious, vengeful and despicable. At the same time, we have the morality conversation between Badger and Fox that isn't clearly resolved and leaves question as to the morality of Fox's actions.which then presents some justification for the actions of the farmers.
On the plus side, this book is definitely geared towards young readers and as such I'm certainly overthinking the need for a moral. The kids enjoyed the story and saw Fox's victory over the farmers as inspiring and funny.
Which is just as it should be.

Roald Dahl is a true original
Dahl is my kind of author. I remember when I first encountered his quirky, adult sensibility in books written for children. It seemed as though he was one the few who treated children as little adults. I really liked that and became a fan for life. In this little fable, Dahl is early precursor to the Shrek inventors--adults get as many laughs as the kids, maybe more. Celebrate Mr. Fox and Roald Dahl once again this year and share this with your entire family!

I'm reading this book in my library class & it's very exciting. I want to hear more & more but class always ends too soon. I would recommend this book for kids 7-10 years old. It's both exciting & funny.

Not for younger children!
I have never written a book review before but felt I had to say something for this one. I got this book because of the overwhelming number of positive reviews. I have 6 1/2 year old twins and it sounded like this would be a good book for their age. I would NOT recommend this for young children. The language in this book is inappropriate and since I was reading it aloud I was able to change or omit a lot of the words. Thankfully my boys can't read everything so I could soften it. The term "stupid" is used a lot and all they talk about is killing and shooting and death. This is not what I was expecting.

Sly & Slick.
NOTE: This is the review written for the DVD since it was not recorded when the rating for the DVD was recorded. If the book is as good as my god-daughter said, then you will enjoy the book and the DVD. DVD review: a favorable comment: engaging & funny entertainment. Action, adventure, daring, and cunning are all in this movie. Mr. Fox is the sly fox of this movie and he has more master plans than you could imagine. The characters make you think of marionettes come-to-life. As Mr. Fox says, "All of the animals are wild by nature and it is hard to change your nature." Therefore, we get to go along with Mr. Fox and watch his "wild" nature at work. This is LOL! entertain adults will enjoy. This movie was a pure riot! Adults will enjoy this PG movie.

We liked Fantastic Mr. Fox
It's funny. Bogus and Bunce and Bean - one short, one fat, one mean. These horrible crooks are different in looks, but they all are equally mean! That was a very funny part from the book that we liked.

Good book
I bought this to read to my son, a chapter a night. He is 5, and really enjoyed it, especially the suspense as the farmers were chasing the fox. Overall, it was great. I would've liked to see them use "stupid" a little less, I'm not sure it teaches kids much, since the foxes rob them blind and sneak around, but it is entertaining.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is fantastic
Roald Dahl's Fantastic Mr. Fox is a story that can be enjoyed by both children and adults. His witty tale of a sly fox who outwits the three meanest farmers in the valley is an easy and absorbing read. The book has all the original drawings by Quentin Blake, who illustrated many of Dahl's other works, but a nice addition are the color stills from the recently released Wes Anderson stop-motion animated film based on the story. The characters from the film add greatly to the enjoyment of the book, especially for those who have seen the movie, which embellished on the original story while keeping much of the wit and spirit of the book. I recommend this book to anyone who likes a fun story that roots for the "underdog," or in this case, the whole community of underground creatures who come to rely on Fantastic Mr. Fox to save them from the angry farmers.

Mr Fantastic
Boggis and Bunce and Bean One fat, one short, one lean these horrible crooks So different in looks Were none the less equally mean This is a limerick that sums up the three horrible farmers that try to get rid of fox family that live upon the hill and survive on the farmers produce. Then the farmers have enough and try to starve the foxes out of there burrow to shoot them. But Fantastic Mr Fox has a cunning plan and the farmers are just to stupid to realize the plan that is literally happening under their nose's. Brilliant story to read.

This is one of my second grader's favorite books. He had me read it several times to him when younger and the first book he chose to re-read on his own. A favorite of ours by Dahl.

My 7 year-old son became totally engrossed with this story. He's a very active little boy, but he was completely absorbed as I read it to him in one evening. He immediately demanded I read it to him again. It's clever and wonderful, full of twist and turns and intriguing characters. Only the first three 'Harry Potter' books have captivated him like this tale.

Fantastic Book
I thought that this book was funny because the farmers were so crazy looking for Mr. and Mrs. Fox and their family. Some of the characters were so funny. They were fat, skinny and small. The farmers lost a lot of sleep over this silly fox, nor did they eat or even move because they were waiting for the fox. I like the ending because of the feeling of family that all the animals had together. It is funny that the foxes and rabbits live together, since sometimes Foxes eat rabbits.

A Good Story for Young Readers
Fantastic Mr. Fox is an entertaining story about a family of foxes trying to escape three terrible hunters. The hunters are actually farmers whom the foxes have hunted several of their chickens. Now the foxes are being hunted. Yikes! A great story with a great ending.
