'Far From Xanudu' Rules
Far from Xanudu is a one sided love story that is narrated by a girl named Mike, who lives in a small Kansas town. She is struggling to understand her sexuality (she knows she's lesbian, but refuses to admit it to anyone with the exception of her gay cheerleader friend, Jamie), when a new girl comes to her school. Her name is Xanudu, and Mike falls head over heels in love. The problem is, the feeling isn't mutual. She slowly becomes more and more obsessed with Xanudu, who is going out with the local southern good boy, Bailey, until finally, she feels she can not live without her. All of this and the fact that it's the two year anniversary of her father's suicide, makes Peters' book an amazing read and overall, a very sad love story with a bittersweet ending. Far From Xanudu is one Of Peters's best works, and I would recomend it to anyone, of any age, who has ever wanted soemone that was just out of their reach.

Exciting!!!
This book was my first Julie Ann Peters book, and I absolutely loved it. I read it three years ago, and it truly helped me figure out who I was by relating to the characters in the book. A great coming of age book, detailed, and compassionate. Xanadu is a handful, yet Mike plunges right in, in hopes of finding true love!

Amazing.
I really loved this book. It made me think about so many things in my life. It was a really great read. I read it in three days. The only thing I didn't like, was that it should have been more descriptive. But it's still a WONDERFUL book.

Impressive
This book, like all of Julie Ann Peter¿s books, is really intense, though well articulated. It is about a girl, Mike (her full name is Mary-Elizabeth), and she¿s lesbian. She lives in a small town, and is the only lesbian person in the town, though the people in the town don¿t care about that. They just ignore the fact that she isn¿t straight. Her best friend, Jamie, is a guy, and like her, he¿s the only gay guy in the town, but the other people in town really don¿t care. Mike¿s dad was an alcoholic who committed suicide two years earlier by jumping off the water tower. Her mom hasn¿t said a word to her since the day of his funeral, and her older brother, Darryl, smokes, is on drugs, and drinks, though not as badly as her dad did. This year though, a girl named Xanadu comes to town, and Mike is instantly attracted to her. Xanadu leads Mike to start drinking, and even ditch school once. This is a very well written book about coming of age and learning who you really are deep inside.

Amazing
I have looked at this book's cover and wanted to check it out of the school library everyday for the past month. I'm not sure what stopped me, maybe it was my own denial. Anyway, the book is amazing. It touches upon so many subjects and life lessons, and not in a sparotically arranged way either. I definitely found parts of me in this novel that I haven't been able to share with anyone. Julie Anne Peters has a way with words-- this book was simply too good to put down! From the moment I started reading it, it was physically impossible for me to turn away from it. I only wish that I hadn't waited so long to check it out! This book is an amazing, poignant story of lust, life, and coming to terms with ones sexuality. It definitely touched my heart, and I highly recommend it to anyone.

I Loooove this author and I looooove this book
I'm absolutley in love with Julie Anne Peters. She is an amazing writer and I've never come across a book of hers that I didn't like. This book is great! The characters are realistic the plot is vivid and heartwrenching...I've read it at least 3 times and would read it many more except my girlfriend borrowed it and still hasnt given it back!

Blatant but meaningful
Far From Xanadu is about a lesbian girl, Mike, who has fallen in love with a straight girl, Xanadu. Every time they touch, Mike feels electric sparks and finds herself falling even more in love with Xanada every day. Xanadu has a dark secret though, one that Mike knows, but one that Xanadu is trying to hide from everyone else. Xanadu finds a boyfriend and Mike is left in the dust, always feeling left out. This is a story of Mike and her feelings, as well as the resentment of her dead father, loser brother, and horrible mother. It's a story of truth, of realization, and of heartbreak. This book isn't near as good as Ms. Peter's 'Keeping You a Secret' or 'Luna', I recommend those more than this book. Far From Xanada is a lot more blatant and I feel as though Ms. Peters didn't enjoy writing it as much as the others.
