    Fascinatingly Delicious

What man Deanna Raybourn has created in her novella FAR INTO THE WILDS! Ryder White will fascinate you from his first growled words to his final smile, a man who moves with grace and easy confidence through the beauty and dangers of 1918 Kenya. Man mauling lion on the loose? He's your man! Pompous Danish prince demanding a leopard trophy? No problem. Beautiful and enigmatic mademoiselle petrified of crocodiles? She's effortlessly swept up in his arms.

He's a man who demands a very special match. Lucky for us that Raybourn has written FAR INTO THE WILDS as a prequel to her forthcoming A SPEAR OF SUMMER GRASS with an excerpt included here, introducing Delilah Drummond. She's a wild child flapper whose latest scandal -yet another divorce with smuggled jewels, royalty and nasty gossip - has her fabulous mother Mossy, one of her own ex-husbands Quentin, and her favorite stepfather Nigel all conspiring to get Delilah out of the public eye. What better place than Nigel's African plantation? And who lives nearby?

That's right! Delilah, meet Ryder. Ryder, meet Delilah. We'll all sit back to enjoy the fireworks.

    Fine but not great

Pretty good story, but it is definitely a prequel that leads into another book. You meet some characters that I assume will reappear later, they have some problems, and everything is set up for the future. The writing is good, the characters are interesting, but there was one thing that really bothered me: one character is described at the beginning as blonde, but by the end (and without hair dye) it's black.

    It was ok.

I expected more than a short novel, only 65 pages. It was interesting as far as telling a story about the safari.

Excellent prequel to A Spear of Summer Grass.  It certainly wetted the appetite for the novel.
I found it fun and atmospheric with wonderful descriptions of Africa in 1918 and considering how
short it was, I found myself pulled into the story and characters.

    Great Story!

This is a great short story with interesting characters that make you want to know more. Which is good since it was written as a 'teaser'--you have to go get the novel to find out what happens to the characters. In this story, the lead characters are best friends--a guy and a girl--who don't have any romantic interest in each other. Which is quite novel for the romance genre! But I see that he will find his love in the full-length novel. And I hope we'll get to read the rest of her story as well. Overall, this was a good introduction to Deanna Raybourn's writing. I will read more!

    Great introductory novella

I really enjoyed this novella from Deanna Raybourn. It gave a great introduction to some of the characters in her forthcoming "A Spear of Summer Grass". I look forward to getting to know these characters better!
