its hard to make a best of

'Best of' albums have always been hard for bands because the best of their songs is sujuctive and opinionated. a 'best of' cd could never please everybody, even the hard core fans - especially the hard core fans. I am a big fan of the counting crows and ofcourse i have my favorites -what i think is counting crows' best and ofcourse many of my favs aren't on the album. Crow's frontman adam duritz as said thet nobody is completely pleased with the cd - even himself but it is still a great disc and i highly sujest it.

    Solid but Incomplete

Nothing on this disc is out of place as a "greatest hit," but the omissions are puzzling. I am not some hard-core Counting Crows fan whose favorite song is something esoteric that has no business being on a best-of compilation, but anyone with modest familiarity with the band's albums will notice that "A Murder of One" (to me still their best song) and "Daylight Fading" are conspicuously absent and far better than some of the songs that made it. The Hard Candy selections are questionable as well. I round my 3.5 stars up to 4 because the songs that did make the cut all are good, but less than a solid 4 or 5 because it could have been much better.
