If you liked Longtitude, Mauve or Galileo's Daughter you will like this book. The author does a good job of weaving historical fact, science and a biography into a capativating story of one man's life.

Fascinating portrait of a polymath
It is extraordnarily difficult to find books about the intriguing Swedish polymath Rudbeck in English, and I was delighted to come across this one. The author paints a lavish portrait of the eccentric Rudbeck himself as well as the bizarre academic intrigues of 17th century Uppsala. The story of Rudbeck's life and scholarship, including his quest for the lost Atlantis, is told in vivid and readable prose. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the history of science or the history of ideas. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
