Ms Wilkinson skillfully blends history, intrigue, romance, suspense, and a happy ending for the hero, the dashingly handsome Sebastien, and our plucky, beautiful, brave and loyal heroine, Rachael. One of the most interesting reads to date, this novel includes a brief history in the back of the book of the Eddystone Light, a famous lighthouse that was built and rebuilt by the architecht, Henry Winstanley, who was not only the buildings designer, but also in inventor of some repute. All the characters are totally believable, from Rachael's friend, Tarry and his father, to Sebastien's loyal friend, the Dane. Add the frighteningly souless, lapdog of evil, Emerald, and Victor, Rachael's uncle, intent to replace the heirs, and you have the perfect recipe for everything to keep you turning the pages. This was a delightful read, and I can't wait for the next book,Stolen Promise to come out in March 2010. Good luck to this excellent new voice.

Not my cuppa tea.

I know that others have enjoyed this title, which is how I came to read it. However, I was unable to fully engage in the story. It never became real, the characters lacked quircky elements of humanity, and Rachel, the heroine, wasn't compelling to me.

    Enjoyable

The story line is good, but sometimes hard to follow. Enjoyed the characters in the story and the end ties up all the loose ends.

    good read

Not real happy with ending, story did a little dragging, then it went to the end really fast and I felt like I missed something.

    Simply okay

As another reviewer mentioned, the characters in this story were not engagingly fleshed out. The story arc was confusing, although the description of the Great Storm during that period in history was quite interesting. The plot seemed somewhat rushed with slightly immature characters. However, I would read another book by this author. I feel she might just be finding her rythm.

    Pretty good

Characters are fairly well developed. A bit wishy-washy - think one thing then say another. A bit heavy on the constant misunderstanding. The female lead character I found to be a bit stupid but she is supposed to be very young and sheltered. Lots of action. No sex, just a little kissing. A nice adventure story, interesting. Over 200 pages.

This book was about 9 chapters too long and one chapter too shor

This book was about 9 chapters too long and one chapter too short.  The story started out good and the plot was moving along and stayed interesting.  Then about chapter 15, everything fell off the rails.  The heroine was spineless--she believed anything anybody said to her except the man she supposedly loved.  One of the main villans is killed and by then, you really don't care.  Then the author throws about 17 plot twists together and throws information at you super fast to wrap everything up.  But the worst sin is that after putting readers through all that, the HEA ending is just BLAH!  There really needs to be a better payoff if you expect readers to stick around to the end.  So, not a bad effort but could be tightened up a little.

    Historical Romance I guess?

I thought this book was decent around 3/4 of the way through. After that point, it was like wading through mud to try and read - everything was very bogged down. This book starts out fairly interesting, then just becomes predictable and kinda boring.
