Great story telling, rich characters,.. but I'm convinced that Jordan has some HUGE issues: do all of his female characters have to be harping witches? Are we to believe that the male characters are effecting changes in the world that will rock it to its very foundation, yet they can't tell these women to get off their backs? The rare (and I mean RARE) women in these books that are straight-shooters always seem to get the shaft.

I am a huge Robert Jordan fan but this book was not very good for one reason alone, the focus on the female characters relationships. If you buy this book be ready for a heavy handed dose of female melodrama. This book definitely has it bright spots but they are almost always eclipsed by the female characters constant back and forth banter. If you buy this book you would be better served skip large portions of the book when ever Egwene or any other of the female characters goes on a rant.

    Good story...bad author.

To clarify, I give this STORY a 5 star rating, but I subtract 2 stars for the writing style. I love this story, truly, but Jordan isn't a good writer. Just like book 4, so little happened in this book, it could have been summed up in about 600 pages. Once again, no need for a 1000 page book. You have a whole half of a story where nothing happens. I will admit it does move faster that book 4 (The Shadow Rising), but this is ridiculous. If you want to read this story, get with someone who has read it, and find out what chapters you can just skip, because many of them have no purpose. If I may give an example. The chapter 'To Boannda' (Chapter 49, page 791) is 31 pages with absolutely no purpose. Doesn't sound like much, but it happens quite often. I realize many people are willing to forgive this for a good story, and more power to you if you can. I can't. However, if you want the positive aspects of the story, the other reviewers covered them all quite nicely.

    Good series, disapointing book

I feel that although the WoT has been a great series to read, The Fires of Heaven was a disapointment. It focuses on certain characters in the series whil completely leaving out others(Perrin,Loial,etc.). Really only disapointing by comparison, though
