    my son the animal lover

I bought this for my six year animal loving son ...not thinking he would have used it till the covers fell off. He enjoys taking it to school and showing his friends all the different pictures and species of animals. His classmates enjoy it as well...as they share which is there favorite animal...and no matter which one ..its in this book . He calls it the big book of everything . Outstanding pictures, lots of facts makes this one a winner. I am buying him a new one for christmas since he wore out his current copy. All real pictures too ..no drawings in this book. Highly recommended.

    Not Accurate

I am a coordinator for a Science Museum and wanted to give this book to teachers in a workshop. Unfortunately this book is not totally scientifically correct. There is a lot of information that is inaccurate. It uses a lot of generalizations instead of keeping in mind the many exceptions in the animal kingdom that do not fit the main rules of their species. It also states that dinosaurs are descendants of lizards but research has proven that they were more closely related to birds. The only part of the book that is acceptable is the photographs of animals from around the globe. DK Publishing is usually very accurate with their science information however this time DK Publishing disappointed me.

Great book for the curious kid!

My 7-year-old daughter loves this encyclopedia. She spends hours with it, and regales us with interesting and unique facts about various animals. The bright photos are engaging. The material is presented in an interesting and well-organized manner. It is a great supplement to the science classes at their school, which focus on life cycle, habitat, characteristics and classification. The language is appropriate for early readers, but manages to convey a great deal of information. I'm very happy that we invested in this book.

    My daughter loves this book....

My 5 year old daughter loves this book... she is facinated by all the photos and little tidbits on each page. When we let her pick a book out the last time we were at B&N, this is what she picked, and she loves to take it with her places to look at the photos and have us read to her.
Her favorite page is the jellyfish page...
    :)
