Great space opera with a cynical look at why wars start and end
The first casualty is the troops' belief that their military leaders are competent. The second casualty is the troops' belief that their top leaders care more about them than they care about their careers. The third casualty is the troops' belief that their political leaders are interested in something except power and money. The fourth casualty is the troops' belief that the war is about more than some fat cat making another megacredit. (Sounds a lot like Viet Nam, doesn't it?) Well written, well proofed, well ebooked. This is the re-release of the first of Shepard/Moscoe's Society of Humanity books, about a century before the Kris Longknife books. The characters in this series are much more believable than Kris. Good read.
