For Time and Eternity has the makings of a good story, however, it only skims the surface, lacking depth and growth of character. Nathan so strongly embellished his faith, if anything, after seven years, Camilla should have been more surprised that he hadn't taken a second wife then that he going to. I would like to have seen Camilla's character grow, not only spiritually, but emotionally, into an attractive, spirited, woman, instead of staying plain and dowdy always fading into the background. Nathan was suppose to be charismatic, but I found him weak, immature, and not very likable. For all his faults, at least Tillman was strong and able to handle his lifestyle and he treated Rachel well, while Nathan barely tolerated Camilla after his second marriage. We never know if Nathan cared so much for Camilla that he had to distance himself from her in order to go on with his plans, or if he just lost interest in her and like Tillman and the other 'saints' lusted for someone younger and prettier in his bed. It was hard to believe that the beautiful, fashionable, Amanda, coming from wealthy Victorian England Society, would be 'so excited' about becoming the 'second wife' to a poor carpenter, like Nathan, no matter how handsome and supposedly charming he is. If she is who she says she is and marriage was her plan, not only would she not welcome a plural marriage, she would have her sights set on someone handsome and rich, who could give her a gracious home in the city and the lifestyle she was accustomed to. I didn't find Amanda sweet or simple, I found her shallow and secretive. I would liked to have seen more character background and development; to know more about Nathan and Rachel's childhood and their early relationship with Tillman, Nathan's age, if he truly loves Camilla, his feelings about Amanda, if he is happy with his decision and where his life is headed, as well as Amanda's thoughts and feelings. As strong as Camilla's feelings are regarding the Morman Religion and beliefs, she would have done whatever was necessary to protect her daughters from this lifestyle, even if it meant holding back her true feelings until she could find a way out.

    Couldn't put it down...

This book captivated me from the very start. The author did a phenomenal job painting the picture of the deep love Camilla had for her husband. I felt the raw emotion of jealousy that she felt when her husband took a new wife and I cheered her on as she once again embraced the roots of her childhood faith. I did not like the cliff hangar ending, however :)

I thought this was a really good read.  It was fascinating to me

I thought this was a really good read.  It was fascinating to me to see the Mormon lifestyle from this perspective.  the only problem was that it really left you hanging and wishing for the next book!
