Forgotten Realms: The Dark Elf Trilogy: Homeland/Exile/Sojourn

Excellent!!!

This was the first Salvatore book that I have read. A friend told me I should read the Drizzt books and I am glad I did. Drizzt is an excellent character and the plot is very interesting. I am looking forward to reading all of the books!

The beginnings of Drizzt Do'Urden, the definition of an archetype

The Dark Elf Trilogy is the story of, but not the creation of the character (regarding our time frame; it's a prequel of sorts) one of the most famous fantasy characters in the literary world: Drizzt Do'Urden, the archetype of the drow (dark elf).
It tells of Drizzt's youth, training, etc... in his home, Menzoberranzan and I consider it one of the better book(s) regarding character development and action that I've read.
Picture a child born in a partially successful (there's still good guys out there somewhere) Nazi-like nation that feels like there's just something morally wrong with what he's doing. His problem is that if he shows those emotions, he disappears. So he has to disappear and, in doing so, face the rugged environs and other drow that can kill him on the way out to escape it.
We see a youth torn between his moral instincts in a primarily (aside from some of its slaves and a couple of others) evil city full of drow, an almost entirely and inherently evil, backstabbing, and power-thirsty offshoot of elves.
At the same time, we see him train, then fight, with his trade mark dual-scimitar fighting style. I didn't see that used again until the Transitions series, if I'm correct; although the dual-weapon style seems to be popular among the drow.

Awesome!!!!!!

This book was reccomended to me by a friend, and when I started reading it I couldn't put it down. Drizzt is just a very interesting yet complicated character, but it makes you like him. I have not regreted reading these books at all and am starting to read others. I am so glad I took my friends advice.

Great series

My cousing brought Homeland with him when he came to visit and said I must read it. I did and immediately had to have the whole series. Of course my small town library had only like the 5th and 13th book, so I turned to trusty B&N and started buying the series. Great reads, all of them, and I have discovered new characters to add to my already too large collection of favorites.

Highly Recommended

My favorite Salvatore book. Basically, it is about Drizzt growing up and the choices he has to make between 'fitting in' and holding to who he is. And it raises the age old question of whether we are products of our environment or the environment is a product of us. I found the dark elf society fascinating in its 'lawful chaos'. When I read the first published book of Drizzt (The Icewind Dale Trilogy) I thought he was a little .... self defeating but with this book I now understand why he is the way he is.

Great set

This is one of the best series of books I have ever read... My favorite is the second, were they summon the ... ill leave it out I am trying to collect all of R. A. Salvadors books but it is tricky and kind of expencive.. But I know it woll be worth it

Drow Pleasure

Wow, I was just blown away by this book. The extreme, yet delicate atmosphere, pratically blossomed with detail. Not one thing was left undetailed, yet somehow he still managed to keep it interesting and eventful. I have to say this is the book that just blew away any other book for me. The language, the flowing writing was simply amazing. I recommend this to all around me to buy this book. It is considered a MUST HAVE!

love it

love Drizzt, great adventure with much feeling, and wonderful writing style

The Dark Elf Trilogy

I had read the Icewind Dale Trilogy before this book and often wondered way Drizzt Do'Urden has left his home world. This trilogy should be read first before any of the other trilogys.

I found that it was written well and it kept me interested from begin to end.

Fantasy at its best

I can't possibly say enough about this first series. This universe that is created before my very eyes set my imagination on fire. The absolute scope and contrast of this character and the world in which he lives is absolutely dumbfounding. Despite its size which contains 3 books I found it to be an incredibly fast read that left me hungry for more. I would recommend this again and again.

Introduction
The main idea in this book is to learn about the drow elves and their way of life. This book is mainly for teens and adults. There are a lot of dangerous things in this book.

Description and summary of main points
This book is fantasy so do not try anything the main character, Drizzt or his friends do. Salvatore has written many other fantasy books so he has experience with these books. It needs to have some of the plot. The adventure starts when Drizzt Do'Urden was born. Throughout his many years as page prince to his house he learns how to use his innate drow magic. Then he learns how to use two matching scimitars. After many years Drizzt becomes a drow warrior. After he becomes an exile of his homeland he goes to live in the under dark. To find out what happens to Drizzt get this book and read it for yourself.


Evaluation
Drizzt is part of the drow society. The drow are tall, slender and agile. They have ebony skin. The story takes place in the evil city Menzoberanzan. This is the drow city. It is made completely underground. The girls of every house are superior to men and when Drizzt called his mother Malice his sisters would pull out there snake-headed wips and say "Matron Malice". With the long adventure in this book it has made the point of an adventure book. Exile, the second book in the series has a bit more adventure than Homeland does.

Conclusion
There are many dangerous things in this book. The main idea is Drizzt Do'Urdens life. In the end I loved this book and could not wait to read the next books in the series.

In my opinion this is the best book I ever read. This book gives lots of detail and describes everything to its fullest. I would not change a single thing in this book. My favorite character would have to be Guenhwyvar, Drizzts panther.

Matriarchial dystopia

This is the 3 piece book that preludes "The Icewind Dale" trilogy. It is fantastic beyond imagination. The first page that describes the horrors of the Underdark sets the stage for some definite horrors to come to a young dark elf lad. There's so much I can say about it, but I'll just leave it at that, I don't want to spoil anyone's read. But if you like fantasy, and great storytelling, pick this up, or just buy "Homeland" first, then "Exile", then "Sojoun", just trust me, I red this book in 2 weeks, for me that's fast, usually I get bored and do something else haha. But yeah, buy it, if you want, it's GREAT!1

Loved this book!!

I absolutely loved this book. From the moment I opened it I wanted to know more about Drizzt and the challenges he had to face. It has a lot of good characters and twists to the story. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy and has a good imagination.

One of the best series around

This series is one of the best I have ever read. I have read it over and over because the story line is so intense and thrilling. Drizzt is a dark-elf fighting to live in a world that harbours no tolerance for his race. With his will to survive and be better than his people he sets out to live the life he dreams of and to leave the reputation of his people behind. With the help of many friends, and alas, many enemies, he truly learns what it is like to be accepted for who he is instead of what he is. This is only the beginning of his adventures as his story unfolds over a conglomerate of over a dozen books.

The Dark Elf Trilogy rivals that of the legendry Lord of the Rings

This series takes you along with Drizz't, a dark elf on an odysey full of dark wonders and tense battles of those in the underdark with dangerous enemies and the battle to hold on to his principles and soul. This book is a must read and one of my favorites.

Dark Fantasy

This was definitely a 'dark' trilogy, though it was very interesting. Though it's a fantasy series, it really displays the consequences of misconceptions and assumptions against other people. If you like the Dragonlance saga or Magic the Gathering, you'll probably like this.

Never Before

Never had I read a fantasy novel before I stumbled on to R.A Salvatores dark elf trilogy. Wow what a way to start! Any other fantasy author would be hard pressed to live up to Drizzt Do Urdan and his adventures in the underdark of the Menzoberanzan. Each book gets better and better. If I had to describe these novels and R.A Salvatore I would describe him as the Louis Lamour of fantasy and this series (all of the Drizzt books) as the best story ever told in all of the Realms.

Anyone who reads or loves fantasy should read these books. These books give out everything a good fantasy book should. From the description of the Underdark to the evils of Drow society, and everything in between, makes the books what they are. Salvatore gives insight to why Drizzt acts the way he does and who he really is. From the moment of his birth to his travels in the Underdark, and his friendship with Catti-brie and Bruenor, Drizzt Do¿Urden is one of the most beloved characters in the history of fantasy. R.A. Salvatore is an awesome writer and should continue writing the way he does.
