    Good Read

I enjoyed this book very much. It is broken into parts and each part is broken into several chapters. Each part is a generation jump, which makes it a little difficult to get into (you get to know a character or two, things start to get really interesting, then an "encyclopedia" entry summarizes what happened next and the whole timeline leaps forward 50 years or so and you start all over. I also found it best to read an entire chapter in a sitting, because it was easy to get lost if I had to stop and put it down mid-chapter. Despite these challenges, however, it was a good book that got better as it progressed. I look forward to seeing what Asimov did in the next book in the series.

    Nice early sci fi

I enjoyed this book but not wildly. One thing I found cool was identifying concepts that have appeared in sci fi movies and tv series, such as the whole "Jump" concept of hyper-space travel featured prominently in Battlestar Galactica...it sure seems to originated with Asimov in this book! But the book for some reason didn't "grab" me.

Light on action, light on setting, heavy on dialogue.

Light on action, light on setting, heavy on dialogue. In a future so distant mankind isn't sure what planet it started on anymore, we see the establishment of the titular Foundation and its efforts to preserve and restore a galactic empire. Broken into four parts that each deal with a specific event, our heroes explain everything. Almost everything we learn is picked up through dialogue between characters, from the significance of the historical events they're facing, to the way that different groups are going to attempt to solve the situations they find themselves in, and also how individuals have out thought whatever opposition they may have faced.

I was entertained, but I wonder if I got the feeling of the story right. I wonder how seriously it was intended to be taken. I don't think it was ment to be comedy. There wasn't anything here that I could point to and say the author means for this to be funny (well, except for one minor character, maybe). It's more like the author is setting up jokes at people's expense. "Here's the hero, here is his opposition, now lets watch as our hero makes complete and total idiots out of his opposition."

    It was ok

i liked the settings and everything, but Isaac jumped between ten to twelve different people. he is a very accomplished writer, but even though he's dead, if he were alive i would ask him to write a book without jumping. it just so happens i'm doing a criticism research paper, so any who writes, give me some of your thought on the book.
