Finally a well written book for beginners using Actionscript 3.0
Have been teaching game development for beginners using Flash for several years. The change to Actionscript 3.0 makes it more challenging for beginner programmers. Plus the very few books that state they are for beginners are not well done; either silly or overly difficult.
The style of writing is fun and interesting but technically good. The chapter introducing the concept of developing ".as" files is excellent for a beginner. The chapter developing the guessing game covers a wide range of beginning programming concepts in a fun way. The games build in the latter chapters are also well developed introducing concepts of more advanced concepts in programming including Object Oriented Programming concepts.
We will be switching to Rex van der Spuy's book for this fall 2009.
