    3.75 Stars

After reading SHATTERED PROMISES Book #1 (See our reviews here) in this series, I was really excited to figure out what was going to happen next for Gemma, Alex, and Laylen. I'll admit I was a little confused starting FRACTURED SOULS as it has been several months since I read book 1 and I was thrust right back into the story without a lot of back story. I ended up going back to book 1 and skimming through the end to get a sense of where it left off. I would highly recommend that.

Other than that, I love the adventure and the ongoing dangers that Gemma finds herself in while trying to find a way to save her mother from the Underworld and stop Stephan from his evil-doings. And can I say damn, Jessica Sorensen knows how to write some steamy scenes! I'd be okay with a bite from sexy vampire Laylen or a spark of electricity with the strong protector Alex!! There are several twists and turns in FRACTURED SOULS that kept me questioning who's the most evil, who is good (is anyone?!), and how exactly is Gemma going to solve all of this and survive!

I also appreciated how Gemma's story focuses on her struggle to figure out who she is, how different situations change her, and how to accept or not accept them.

"There are things in life that happen that change who we were, things that are hard to come back from, and in the end we never really are the same."

Be prepared to be ready to read Book 3! This one left me with my jaw open, brow furrowed, and a 'NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!' running through my head.

    Surprise ending!

I did not expect the ending of this book. It took a turn that I didn't see coming. I can't wait to read the third book whenever it comes out.
