Nothing New
This covers many aspects about Fred Astaire, but I found it containing repeats of information about him that is way better written in other books. This book was a bit disappointing because it was bias in my eyes. It analyzes why Fred Astaire was such an icon and even compares his style to Gene Kelly's. I love Fred Astaire and I believe that this was not a good enough portrayal of him.

Fred Astaire
Joseph Epstein has written more than a book about this overwhelmingly talented entertainer. what is most enjoyable reading this account of Fred Astaire is that there are no footnotes to interrupt the reader. Epstein directs the reader in one direction only. There are no flashbacks and, using his superb command of the English language, transports the reader from the birth of Astaire to his demise without any form of confusion.

A book like this belongs in the library of any collector who could read it many times. Each subsequent reading will become just as enjoyable as the first. In fact, the reader will get more out of this book with each successive reading.

Good personal view of Astaire's place in film
Joseph Epstein gives an opinionated view of Astaire's looks, movies and sense of style. He places Astaire in his era with a witty behind the scenes biography.
