This is a very powerful tool for managing IT Projects!

This is the first time I encountered a book that not only tells you what you need to do to manage an IT project, but it actually tells you HOW TO do it as well! I love the comprehensive templates that are also very easy to follow. I find myself using this valuable tool a few times a week to help me in my job. I also appreciated the section on how to be an excellent leader of an IT project.

Phenomenal Book. Must Have for All Project Managers!

In my opinion this is the best Project Management book available for Technology and IT project managers. It takes the reader through every step of the project lifecycle and gives detailed instructions on how to approach and complete each step. Most books tell you what you need to do but not many take the time to clearly explain how to do it. The book includes a CDRom with 60 project documents. Each document template is explained in detail so that the project manager knows exactly what information is needed to complete each one. The document templates alone are worth a fortune and will save you and your project team hours of work! The book covers both project and people related tasks and issues. The chapters on leadership, team building and motivation are fantastic. The approach may a little different than what you are used to but it makes total sense. The examples throughout the book are invaluable. They are enjoyable to read and also help to really drive the point home that the author is making. Many common mistakes are covered in detail with great tips on how to avoid falling into some common project management traps. The author also includes a chapter on personal growth and development. The chapter focuses on how project managers can stay focused on their own careers at the same time as helping others focus on theirs and meeting tight project deadlines. Many of us forget to proactively manage our own careers in the craziness of our day to day duties and by the time we realize we have let this slip it is often too late! The writing style in the book makes it easy to understand and interesting to read. The authors humor comes through throughout the book and this prevents it from becoming 'dry' and 'boring' like many other project management books I have read. I have recommended this book to my project management colleagues as well as my manager and the technical leads working on my projects. This is must read for project manager's at all levels. It is written in terms understandable for a junior project manager yet it contains content that will prove to be invaluable to intermediate and senior project managers. If you are a project manager working in technology/IT - buy this book. It will be the best career investment you ever made!!
