I love this group of novels by Joan Wolf, whose writing is as far from "dirty," as a previous reviewer suggests, as anyone in the genre. It may be too much for those in a convent. The Gamble tells the story of Georgiana, who, upon the death of her father, discovers that he was a blackmailer. Her attempts to right this wrong go hilariously awry, and she eventually uses the tactic herself to arrange a marriage with Lord Winterdale. Things turn serious when a series of attacks occurs. Only shortcoming in this fun read: fatal failure to communicate. But if the two prinicpal characters talked openly to each other, it would be a different book wouldn't it? The group of novels I refer to includes, The Arrangement, The Gamble, The Pretenders (not an e-book yet), The Deception, The Guardian and Golden Girl, all great reads. Was this review helpful?
