    Good exciting read. Recommend it.

I found this book very well written, enjoyable to read, though there were painful episodes in the was falshbacks. Eric Wilder did a great job of flipping back and forth from present to past and weaving them together. I would like to read more from him.

An Excited New Novel by Eric Wilder

The prologue sets the scene for this exciting adventure by creating a thread of mystery that spans the pages and presents readers with a question mark that plays on their minds. Is Bill Logan alive, and if so, where is he? Tom Logan, an unemployed petroleum engineer from New Orleans, is determined to investigate the disappearance of Bill, his half-brother¿so determined that he leaves the safety of Pineville mental facility and drives to Brannerville, Arkansas where Bill had been attending college. Tom had admitted himself to the mental facility after a tour in Vietnam as an infantry foot soldier, a failed marriage, an addiction to alcohol and drugs, and spending a year in jail following his third DUI. But the fact that his brother has disappeared off the face of the earth forces him to get out of bed and back into the world. This book has an entangled storyline that keep readers turning the pages with anticipation. The characters are real, the dialogue strong, and the description exceptional. Having previously read some of the author¿s other work, I was not disappointed with the way he uses words to paint breathtakingly beautiful portraits of nature. It is obvious that this author loves the outdoors, and readers see the scenic beauty through his colorful words. I would purchase the book for this depiction alone. In my mind, I was with them at the campgrounds, on the mountain trails, and in the jungles of Vietnam. I made my way through the thick, briery wilderness, helped fight off the bad guys, and eventually visited the Big Valley, delighting in the waterfalls¿perhaps even enjoying the innocence of skinny-dipping. Excitment, adventure, love, mystery...this book has it all.

    Good Read

The author does a very good job taking the reader to a place deep in the mountains and moving just along the end of reality. The characters and strong and believable. I would be interested in more by this author.

    Great Read

At first I wasn't sure about this book, it took me a bit to get into it. Once I started though it was hard to put down. This book has a bit of everything, very good read.

    Enjoyed reading, except for...

his flashbacks to Vietnam. As I was enjoying the book otherwise, I skipped most of his flashbacks, and got along fine.
It wasn't light reading (which I like best), but it kept me interested, and while the story line had more of a fantasy nature than anything else, it kept me going to the end.
If you like a book that keeps you guessing, and is 'off the wall', you will enjoy this one.

Fast Moving and Keeps You Turning the Pages

This modern-day adventure yarn took me by surprise and reminded me of the excitement I felt when I first read King Solomon's Mine. The storyline is complex but not convoluted. The description and dialogue will transport you directly into rocky grottoes and piny forests of Arkansas' remote Ouachita Mountains. I loved the characters and the action. The first half of the book is fast moving and keeps you turning the pages. The last half only gets better. If you like intrigue, romance, and visiting truly exotic places, you will love this book.
