Weintraub takes a seemingly simple story and makes it into one that is heartfelt, warm, and at times humorous. During the course of Washington's journey home the reader can feel his growing anxiety that he arrive by Christmas Eve. At the same time Washington knows that he must receive the accolades of his countrymen, while he revisits the sites of past triumphs. I definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in Washington or the early republic. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
