'If you were mine' Mark said 'I'd take you down to the stream just beyond the flat. The grass is half as high as I am and there are lots of roots and things. There's rocks too. We could turn them over and you could eat the grubs and mice under them. If you were mine-.' Gentle Ben is the touching story of a boy named Mark who goes to an old shed every day after school to see Ben, a brown bear that is chained by his owner. Mark lives near Orca City, Alaska with his parents. Fog Benson, Ben's cruel owner, also lives in Orca City. When Mark is caught with Ben, he talks his parents into buying Ben. They keep him in the garage with a heater, lots of hay and salmon. Then one night, Fog Benson and a group of people go to steal and hurt Ben. Fog is attacked and wouned by the bear and the city finally realizes how big and strong Ben really is. Now they are out to destroy Ben. Only his parents, who realize how much Ben means to Mark, can save him. If you love animals and are interested in what you just read, then I reccomend you read Gentle Ben. Readers of all ages will enjoy this classic novel by Walt Morey. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
