This concept is a gem that needs to be studied and practiced! Our struggle for perfection, fear of being seen as "different", fear of being disliked, un-accepted and so many other crippling aspects of "being human" all make us vulnerable to sickness, and misery. This wonderful book endears us to living an authentic life, whole-hearted living and accepting the fact that what makes us different also make us unique and special. We need to embrace our authentic selves and STOP trying so hard to please everyone else by being the way we think THEY want us to be. Yes, it sounds easy on paper but the truth is that, of course, this insight makes more sense than anything else I can think of! This should be on all of our bookshelves!

Decent

I was disappointed. Book see,ed dull at points and obvious most of the time. I gave it three stars because it is nice to be reminded that we need to take a breathe and cherish our differences.

    Highly Recommend

I would read anything Brene Brown puts out. She is trans-formative.

    Very Good Read

I really enjoyed this book, it is full of insightful information on accepting yourself the way you are imperfections and all. It made me laugh, cry and do some thinking about how I perceive myself and about how I come off to other people.

    Not for me

A friend recommended this book.....she said she should have read it 40 years ago. I love the title and had high hopes but they were not to be. I found the narrative confusing ang struggled 3/4 ways thru and quit. Maybe if one had a book club, as my friend did, to discuss the book, chapter by chapter, that would have helped.

    ****************

I would give this book 100 stars if I could. I really honestly feel like this book has changed my life. There was so much that was said that I felt "she is talking to me about my life." So very glad I read this book and feel like I got a lot out of it!

    Live Changing

Easy to read, short, concise, well written, full of information presented in a way that changed my way of thinking. I am a believer of Change Your Thinking, Change Your Life and this book definately spoke to that.

Easy to read with lots of great insight....not a how to book..:))

This book really helps you understand your gifts and to learn to work with your less desirable traits. In the end they are all gifts. You just learn to appreciate them all and see them in there place in your life.

    Good information

I enjoyed reading this book and feel I learned a few things as well. I would recommend this book. In fact, I purposely finished the book quickly so my daughter could take it with her to read on a plane because I knew she would benefit from it.

    Academic

Ms. Brown writes forwardly, but shows her academic roots. She speaks logically of her experiences, but fails to convey any real "guts" on the many issues and "studies" she describes. In that sense, she qualifies as being a psychologist at best, wrapping her head around the stuff of life. Her insights are sound, but limply communicated. The occasional humor interrupts the monotony of an otherwise, flat discourse.
