    I Also Recommend:

    Funny and easy read

Girls don't fly is a realistic book where you can easily identify yourself with the main character (Myra). It's a charming story and easy to read. In many parts I found myself laughing out loud thanks to the characters way of dealing with situations. I couldn't help but want the best for Myra. She went from a shy, dependent and selfless girl to a strong and independent woman.

After having the wonderful opportunity to hear the author, Krist

After having the wonderful opportunity to hear the author, Kristen Chandler, read part of her book “Girls Don’t Fly”, I enthusiastically bought the book, and began to read it.  This story caught my attention for its simple, yet delightful writing.  This novel is charming, the main character is relatable, and overall, easy to read.
I think this novel is a good read for adolescents. The main character Myra is 16, with four younger brothers who she usually takes care of.  She is always trying to take of other people.  Her world seems to collapse after her boyfriend breaks up with her.  Typical teen novel.  Finally Myra decided that it’s time to do something for herself.
After a guest speaker comes into her biology class and is shown a presentation about the Galapagos Islands, she cannot stop thinking about it.  She becomes entranced with the birds and other island creatures.  Myra is devastated to find out that the trip to go there would cost too much money than what she could afford.  But she doesn’t let this stop her.
Myra suddenly finds herself competing to be able to make this dream possible.  She does things she would never have imagined doing.  Throughout this story, the characters make the reader laugh and wonder and experience the adventure with them, while they learn to change and grow.
This story, by Kristen Chandler, is a refreshing teen novel that shows what they are capable of.  Changing, evolving, and maybe even flying.  I would recommend it!

This book was ok. I was intrigued enough to read the entire book

This book was ok. I was intrigued enough to read the entire book and I guess the main character grew by the end of the book, but it seemed like she was still defining herself by her relationships with others instead of what was inside of her. Her parents need to have a stern talking to as does her sister. I'm not sure I would recommend this book, but it wasn't terrible.

    Awesome Read!!

Myra is a very likable character that you can really relate to. Its a fast read, but once you get into it, you really don't want to put it down. I love how Myra goes from being very shy and in her words "a doormat" to being a confident and strong young woman. I saw so much in her and I really liked it.
