I feel this is Binchy's best book. Circle of Friends comes in a close second. I truly wish they'd have made a movie out of this book too. I would be interested to see who they would cast. =)

    Drowning a kitten

I find Maeve's books rather a relaxing read, although a bit overly wordy, hence I read over often, but the scene I wish that I had read over involved drowning a kitten. She wrote it as if it was suffering and they were drowning the kitten to be kind. I hardly find drowning an animal a kind act and I find it most disturbing this scene was in this book. Another one of her books (I think it was this one too) used one of the expressions to 'swing a cat' which I also find disturbing. If this had been her first book that I ever read, I'd never have read another one of her books. I'm disappointed in her. This disturbing scene has really taken my enjoyment from this story and from her writing.
