Book Review: God Gave Us Two
God Gave Us Two by Lisa Tawn Bergren is a cute picture book. It was a pleasant break from thicker books I'd been reading. It helps children understand the blessing of a new baby. Throughout the book, Little Cub is told, "God gave us you. Now He's given us two!" They let her know how much fun she can have with her new sibling...normal things like snowball fights...and unique things like iceberg hoppin' and puffin pouncin' :). The book shows how a mommy's tummy gets bigger and bigger. When the baby is about to be born, Little Cub goes to stay with her grandparents. There's a surprise at the end. *Spoiler* During the book, Little Cub wonders if she'll get a baby brother or a baby sister. In the end, she gets both! Two adorable tiny polar bear cubs. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
While I am obviously not the target audience for this book, it was still fun to read. The illustrations by Laura J. Bryant are sweet and playful. I would recommend God Gave Us Two to anyone who is expecting a new baby and already has children...or as just another nice picture book for your kids to read!

Great for the ever expanding family
In God Gave us Two, by Lisa Tawn Bergren, you once again enter into the home of a lovable polar bear family and are charmed by their simple conversation about how their family of three is about to turn into a family of four. Was this review helpful? The illustrations are simple and toned down, compared to the many hyper-color and visually busy books that grace the bookshelves. The language is simple and realistic. In fact, when our second, and third child was born, I remember being asked the question, "Why do we need a new baby?" As if they were a commodity we bought at the grocery store.
Overall, it is enjoyable, well done, and my children love it...even though we DON'T have a new baby on the way...

Great children's book for a new baby coming home
This children's book is applicable to our family as I am expecting another baby. The book did not disappoint! It is a beautiful hardback with engaging illustrations. In the book, the author speaks to young children about the questions, fears, and insecurities that are associated with their parents bringing a new baby into the home. The mother bear lovingly answers legitimate questions from her "Little Cub", including "If we don't like the new baby, can we send it back?" and others like it to encourage the child to focus on the positive aspects of having another sibling. The parents in the story also interweave God into their answers by reminding the little cub that God gave the little cub to them, as God has also given the family the new baby. I liked the book very much and would recommend it to anyone who is adding another sibling to the home. This would also be a great gift for a baby shower!I received this book from Waterbrook Press. God Gave Us Two: Introducing Siblings
As an older sibling with a sister born six years after me, I can remember well how confusing it was when my sister was born. Older siblings are concerned about being replaced or forgotten, and are generally bewildered about why another child has come along. I love that the God Gave Us series does a great job of explaining the purpose behind creation, love, heaven (in the God Gave Us So Much book) and how we came to be (in God Gave Us You). In God Gave Us Two, Lisa Tawn Bergren helps parents explain another difficult subject with ease. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. God Gave Us Two shows Little Cub asking Mama and Papa questions about the soon-to-be-born sibling, as the parents explain that the baby is a gift from God - in the same way that Little Cub was a gift from God. They reassure Little Cub that both children will be loved very much. This book would be perfect to read to a child between the ages of about two and six to prepare them for the upcoming child and ease their concerns. One slightly confusing aspect of the book is that Mama actually gives birth two twins at the end of the book, which could potentially be confusing for siblings as parents expecting one child would need to explain this so the sibling didn't get set on having two brothers or sisters at once.
