Refreshing drink of encouragement
Has life handed you a few lemons? Some much larger than others, I bet.
Well, Don Jacobson has compiled a collection of "true stories that sweeten & inspire" in his book God Makes Lemonade. In this collection, Don (who is the former president and owner of a major publishing company, Multnomah) has given us several true, short stories written in the words of the people who experienced them. Each story is unique, though they all share the quality of reminding us how God truly does turn some very sour life situations into a sweet, refreshing drink of Living Water when we need it most.
Some stories will make you laugh, many will make you cry (or at least get a little moisture in your eyes)...but all do remind you that you are not alone in the trials you face in life.
From a story of a father who learned to show love and grace to his son after initially belittling him for his uncontrollable bedwetting problem, to stories of dire financial straights and the strength that came through enduring those times and learning of God's loving provision first-hand, to stories of unexpected and unwanted health issues, to a story of twins who share a unique bond that is miraculously enhanced through a life-threatening tragedy...so many true life events and lessons...straight from those who have lived them.
If you so choose to read this first installment of a planned series, you may discover that you even know someone who has written in it (as I do!). You may even feel led to submit your own story. Additionally, by purchasing this book you will be benefiting the LemonAid Foundation which is a foundation that directly supports single mothers ~ a group of people Don Jacobson and his wife Brenda are passionate about helping.

"God Makes Lemonade" is a series of stories, collected by Don Jacobson, that illustrates, that life will throw us curveballs, but though we may feel that there isn't a light at the end of the tunnel, reading the stories of those, whose lives were turned upside by unexpected events, only to come out in the end, stronger and for the better, is a hopeful reminder that life isn't as sour as we may think. Don writes in the afterward,"Love can change the world, and faith can get us through tough times. But sometimes we act like we can live without hope. I don't know about you, but the times I'm best at loving and being faithful are the times I'm also filled with a sense of hope." Can't that be said about any of us. We have our faith and we have love for those who are around us and even those we've yet to know, but in "God Makes Lemonade", these series of collections, take things one more and adds hope to the mixture. For many....its more than just having faith, but also having that needed hope, not about the future, but about the next hour, or the next day, and with, "God Makes Lemonade", Don Jacobson, brings a collection, that is a reminder, of those lemonade moments, when life seemed sour, only to have God sweeten it unexpectedly. Something to note about, "God Makes Lemonade", not only does it bring, to the reader, a collection of stories that enrich the heart, but proceeds from the book, goes to the LemonAid Foundation, that is geared toward supporting single moms. Was this review helpful? Being a huge lover of Chicken Soup for the Soul books when they first came out, I've loved sharing peoples stories of love, compassion, joy, happiness and even the occasional sad story. I think its what unites us with one another as humans. We can empathize with what someone had to endure and we can place ourselves in that situation and share in that emotional connection.
In the book, God Makes Lemonade by Don Jacobson, you will once more gain a beautiful collection of stories that will make you laugh, smile and yes, grab that box of tissues for some sweet tears of both sadness and joy! There is virtually a story in here for everyone from parents to singles; to strangers and families, you are guaranteed to find something in here to connect to. I loved this collection and have been sharing them with my family over dinner as a way to create a dinner topic conversation, to see where our thoughts are and how we would handle a situation. This one rates a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. I received this book compliments of Litfuse Publicity for my honest review.

Stories That Will Sweeten And Bring Hope After "Sour" Events

Every person at some point in their lives will experience a "sour" moment. An experience that if not dealt with can lead to bitterness, anger and, if still not dealt with, turning away from God. These are the moments that can make or break us and it is how we deal with these moments that determine who we really are. Here is a newsflash: God does not give us the "sour" moment however He does know how to make "all things work together for the good". There is an old saying, "when life hands you lemons, make lemonade". In the short stories, stories of just a few pages, they represent the gamut of "sour" that can happen to people and how individuals got lemonade out of them.
Some of these real-life stories are laugh-out-loud funny, others are sobering, and more than a few will have you reaching for a tissue. But these true stories all have one thing in common: hope.

Refreshment for the soul
I love short stories about real people that encourage and often inspire and that's just what you get in the book. I think when I read about everyday people it allows me to easily relate to what they are going thru, the bits of wisdom that I glean from these stories is invaluable. In "God Makes Lemonade" is a compilation of over eighty short stories that really touch on a multitude of subjects. Some are heartbreaking while others are heartwarming and even though most of the stories were often only a few pages it was easy for me to feel connected to the people in the stories, and usually I felt uplifted by the stories they shared. I found a few of the stories really stood out for me and I have actually re-read them. I found the index at the beginning of the book very helpful in being able to mark my favorite stories . The only complaint I have with this book is I wish the author would have grouped stories about similar topics together. If your someone who needs a spiritual boost or just enjoy stories about real people that will encourage and inspire then your certainly going to enjoy this book. This book is a keeper for me, with stories that I will refer to often. Recommended! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Live To Read
This book was a wonderful compilation of factual stories that are meant to be encouraging and are completely realistic. The stories are both heart-breaking and will teach the reader a lesson or two along the way. The stories do not always end well, but that really depends upon the readers' perception. The stories can be medical related, drug related, familial related, etc... There is definitely something for everyone. A reader does not have to read nonfiction constantly to enjoy this book. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.
There were so many touching stories combined that this book is not meant to be devoured, but savored. This is the perfect read for a long car ride or to put by the bedside table. This book is recommended for teens/young adults/adults.
