Going Hungry: Writers on Desire, Self-Denial, and Overcoming Anorexia

For those of you in recovery--stay far away.

Honestly, as a recovering anorexic I find just an excerpt of this book incredibly triggering and offensive. Just in the excerpt, the author makes her weight, her disease, her body shape sound like an achievement. She sounds proud. Confident in herself, she describes her new figure like a hard earned trophy. Writing books about eating disorders and recovery is no small deal. It's a tricky task, walking on a thin line between encouraging and triggering. Going Hungry, is absolutely triggering, and has ventured so far away from the line, that the line, is now a dot. Don't read this book if you ever want to feel happy about your body image. Don't read this book if recovery in your future is a desire.

So many outlooks

This was a beautiful collection of the thoughts and experiences of intelligent women relating to their anorexia. This is actually one of my favorites, maybe even ahead of "wasted".
