    Superior

Piercy's name says it all. She excavates every aspect of WW11, with poignant examples of lives, attitudes, emotions, senses, atmospheres, behavior and deeds, as the story pierces one's heart and exposes the history of the time, at every turn.

She is probably the greatest writer of our time. I have read many books of hers. Her philosophy of life comes through every page.

I recommend only open-minded readers. Her novels are each a phenomenon.

    Wonderful surprise!

I read this book about ten years ago on recommendation from my sister. It looked so old fashioned that I didn't expect much but I was pleasantly surprised. It turns out to be one of the best books I've ever read! The story takes place during WWII. The author weaves together a group of characters who represent the many faces of the war. An American soldier, a young woman in France, an American girl, etc. Some turn out to be heroes, some don't. It stays interesting throughout and is not the least bit old fashioned.

    Long, but SO worth it!!!

Gone to Soldiers captivates the reader from the opening chapter! It's a gripping and brutally honest account of war while also encompassing a wonderful tapestry of real and heartfelt characters! I loved this book and highly recommend it to all avid readers. It may be long, but it's worth it!

    I've worn my copy out!

This is the second time I've bought this book because it is a wonderfully intricate story that you can read again and again. Recommended for those interested in the human side of WWII.

    Life during WW2

This book does a wonderful job of portraying the lives of many kinds of people during WW2. It is very well written and reveals aspects of the war many people do not realize existed.

    READ IT!!!

I have read every Marge Piercy book and there is something about the way she writes that draws you in like you're there in the story with these people that you know: they are your neighbors, mothers, brothers, sisters and friends. That feeling never fails, no matter what book of hers your reading. The same applies to this book. It is an unusual perspective of WWII that I've never read before. I understood a World, A war, and a cause (feminism) like I never did before after reading this book. While this review may seem vague to you, the bottom line is just read the book. Whoever you are, you're at least going to enjoy it, if not absolutely love it!
