    Superb Read! Gritty Legal Thriller...

Jack Stanton, a once powerful Washington lawyer, learns of his indictment, narrowly escapes federal marshals, and escapes to a run-down Chesapeake Bay cottage. Trying to fathom his downfall, he relives a series of dramatic and riveting trials - those that built his career, but simultaneously eroded his moral base. The courtroom scenes are real, tough, and fascinating. An eccentric young woman, an orphan of terrorism, befriends him and helps him with a second escape. When Stanton discovers her disturbing secret, he's given a chance for redemption, leading to a marvelous, unexpected, but satisfying finish. The book, to my mind, is a superb read, gritty, and unrelenting. It offers a window into the hard morality of litigation, and explores the personal toll its profession may exact.

Best book read in a long time!

'Good Counsel' reminded me of the best seller, 'The Reader,' but is a better and more spellbinding story. Like the 'Reader' though, it poses important and serious questions. How the little compromises in life can add up to deeper changes within. It's also a can't-put-down legal thriller that's real, gritty and gutsy. I finished it in a weekend. A wonderful book that transcends its genre, touches deeply, carries the reader along a slippery slope, then holds out the glimmer of redemption. I loved it!
