    The Best Traditional Recipes

I love cookbooks and like to try different types of recipes but at the end of the day I'm still most drawn to good old-fashioned dishes like southern fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, beef stew, and a chocolate cake made from scratch. Good Housekeeping's Classic Home Cooking offers 300 of these traditional recipes for appetizers, snacks, soups, salads, desserts, casseroles, and meat, poultry, and seafood dishes.

This cookbook has colorful photos that inspire me to get into the kitchen to start cooking, to create the kinds of dishes my mom and grandma used to make. I was pleased to find recipes I remembered from childhood such as Green Goddess salad dressing, strawberry-rhubarb pie, three-bean salad, carrot-raisin salad, whoppie pies, chicken pot pie, and German chocolate cake. Along with the expected recipes for things like apple pie, chocolate chip cookies, roasted chicken, and pot roast, there are also some updated recipes such as Baked Alaska with raspberry sauce, Banana Brown Betty (yes, the traditional apple version is also included), and Creole Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.

This is a cookbook I want to purchase copies of for my grown kids so they can enjoy the delicious traditional dishes that are often absent in modern recipe collections.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher for review but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required. If I didn't like it I would say so.
