Wonderful compromise between CIO and No-Cry!

My husband and I purchased 3 books on childhood sleep problems when our son was 4 months old and I was a walking zombie. The three books were The No-Cry Sleep Solution, this book, and Ferber's Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems. This book is a perfect compromise between No-Cry's ninny-ish techniques (that require infinite patience, something no new parent has) and Ferber's cry-it-out method. Good Night, Sleep Tight has wonderful tips for helping your child sleep better and more consistently, and has very practical advice on staying committed to breastfeeding and getting a child back on track after an illness or other disruption. HIGHLY recommended!

Amazing book! A must have for all parents with children newborn -5 years old!

As the previous review mentioned, this book is a wonderfully practical compromise between the extreme theories on childhood sleep. I bought this for my 5 1/2 month old who still had not slept through the night and now she is sleeping 11-12 hours! Don't get me wrong, the book is not a miracle cure, you have to do the work, but it provides a clear baseline on how to find the techniques that work for you and combine them into a sleep plan for your family. Very comprehensive and informative as well as easy to use. The book is laid out in sections based on age from Newborn to age 5 in addition to general sleep information in the first few chapters. I HIGHLY recommend this book!!!

may work for your child, not mine

I have had difficulty with my son since the day he was born. He is an exceptionally clingy child and has yet to sleep through the night at two and a half! This is a good book and the method preached makes perfect sense. The ''Sleep Lady Shuffle'' seems as it may work for younger children and those that are less clingy. The technique states that the first day you should put a chair next to your childs crib/bed and sit there while their falling asleep, and every night move the chair further away. The Sleep lady does address potential problems but NOT what to do if your child just get ut of bed and jumps into your lap, (my son). This method didnt work for us because having me sitting there only tormented my son, who is very clingy to me. I will try the ferber method next, hopefully that will work for us. I will say that there is much to be learned from this book, like the importance of having a schedule for your child, etc. I dont regret purchasing this book, nonetheless. If your child has sleep issues, try it.
