I bought this collection on LP many years ago. I thought digital remastering would improve the sound of the re-recorded early songs but it didn’t. Lightfoot’s voice is mixed low on those recordings. It makes the songs sound really laid back and softens the lyrics’ impact. Listen to Wayl on Jennings’ Version of For Lovin’ Me on his RCA Country Legends Collection to get an idea of this material’s full potential. The later songs sound much better. It’s a good buy for the price. Lightfoot is a proficient songwriter but he sounds a bit dated now. If The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald was here, Gord’s Gold would be the ultimate Gordon Lightfoot CD.
