    Beautifully explained

It explains evolution in the modern age beautifully. How DNA comes into play and why the missing link in fossils is irrealivant. He gives great analogies to support and explain these basic ideas of science.

    I Also Recommend:

    Great read

It has some difficult vocabulary, but it's a good book if you are interested in evolution. I'd also recommend "Evolution for Dummies" if you're new to Evolutionary biology.

    Reeaally Dumb.

Charles Darwin himself claimed evolution was impossible. Im not a scientist, but that fact by itself is pretty self explanitory.

Must read even if you already know the evidence.

So far if there was one book to change my life in the most it would be this one. The odd thing is I "believed" (sorry for putting it that way) in everything the book proves anyway, and it still hugely affected my perspective on life, be it human or not. If I had one gripe, and the reason it did not get 4 stars, it would be that some portions of the book seem to feel to me like you need to be a scientist to understand fully (which is no fault of the book, just of my own).

    Philosophy Disguised as Science

In typical fashion, Richard Dawkins creates a book to argue for his atheistic worldview, rather than let science itself do the talking. I will admit that people's preconceptions do play a role in their interpretations of science. Dr. Dawkins however, goes beyond science in his attempt to once again prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is no God; and that Christians are idiots (doesn't sound like science to me).

Dawkins fails to account for the complete lack of transitional forms in the fossil record (especially if he is going to elevate evolution beyond mere theory into undeniable fact). He may try, but his attempts are wanting. What Dr. Dawkins (along with other evolutionists) is not telling you is that many scientists do not agree with evolution and for good reasons, there is no evidence beyond natural selection or micro-evolutionary/adaptations. In other words no informed scientist will deny that life can adapt or change to survive in new environments (through mutations); but no mutations add new information to the DNA code. Mutations lose information (not gain it), so the idea of common descent is without evidence or merit.

Dawkins is relying on strawmen to represent the viewpoints of intelligent design and creationist proponents. I recommend looking at the other viewpoints regarding intelligent design that ARE available in science publications and peer reviewed journals (despite what many evolutionists may say). I also recommend that you look at Dr. Johnathan Sarfati's rebuttal to this book, titled: 'The Greatest Hoax on Earth?: Refutting Dawkins on Evolution'. Dr. Dawkins is not telling you the full story regarding the evidence (or lack thereof) for evolution.

    Excellent and Informative

If you can look past some of the arrogance in Dawkin's writing, you'll see that he does sketch out one beautiful example after another to illustrate the fact of Evolution. Nobody who understands basic science can deny that evolution is the mechanism by which we (and all other living creatures) came to be. It still leaves room to decide whether a creator kick started the whole process.

Not the challene or thought provoking read I expected

I am only on chapter 5, but I am terribly disappointed! I have learned one thing, after hours of listening to this book. It is like he is reviewing elementary school science class. It is excruciating! I am really hoping that he will move into the high school level and even, dare I say, college level discussion, SOON!

This book was very exhilarating and a great source for human biology and knowledge of the beginning of our species!

This book is a great read and listening to it on tape is great for the non-scientific minds. I would get the audio cd's if you haven't been in science class for a while. I thoroughly enjoyed his explanation of some of the evidence we have so far on the origins of our species. The point is to look at the evidence and understand the analysis. The Greatest Show on Earth really puts things into perspective and helps the average guy understand the evidence (even if it is just a little compared to what we'll recover in the next 100 years). There's still enough evidence right now for one mind to contemplate for a lifetime. Anyways, great read and I very much recommend it.

A clearer understanding of how we, and everything else, came to be.

While Richard Dawkins's books do require you to pay close attention to what you are reading to get the most out of them, they are very informative and do a good job of explaining how evolution has, through the nearly unimaginably vast eons of time, brought us to the point we are at today. I admit that I've had to read some parts of this and other books by Mr. Dawkins more than once before I truly "get" what he is describing or the point he is making but I doubt there are many other authors who can explain evolutionary biology better short of writing a Ph.D level textbook about it. Well worth the time spent reading it and it may just change how you see the world.
