The long awaited return of the original Silver Age Green Lantern legacy
in a modernized form. What started off as one of the best sci-fi based takes on the Green Lantern legacy in the early 1960s and somewhat infamous by its 1970s Green Arrow/Green Lantern phase ended in a mess around the 1990s version. Hal Jordan, test pilot and first human known to join the Green Lantern Corps became another victim of the 1990s sales for sales mentality. It started with the success of The Death and Return of Superman and then Batman getting his back broken in Knightfall, so DC Comics wanted another hero to take a fall. Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern legacy was the next target but unlike the story-telling in the vein of Superman and Batman "fallen hero rises", Hal and the Silver Age Green Lantern legacy didn't return. In his place, a new character Kyle Rayner was created to be Green Lantern in name and the legacy that was so key to the Silver Age Green Lantern disappeared for over 5 years. Then Geoff Johns came into the DC Comics writing stables and suddenly he became a fan favorite. Once Geoff got a hold of rebuilding the Silver Age based Green Lantern legacy, Green Lantern: Rebirth was the amazing result. And suddenly Green Lantern was in the top ten selling comics for DC Comics. This is where that all starts, the Green Lantern legacy returns with the strongest story-telling in a Green Lantern book in years.

Not My Favorite Art
If you haven’t read any Green Lantern graphic novels this one will make absolutely no sense at all. It starts out with Hal dead and the spectre inside of him. The art was not my favorite of the Green Lantern series. The characters look so different in this one than in all of the other books. I prefer the artist for Blackest Night. I’d definitely suggest reading the stories previous to this one in order to understand what’s going on here. If you aren't up on everything in Green Lantern's world you will be even more lost than I was!
