    beautiful edition

But it is not the COMPLETE Grimm's, but arguably the best known and most important ones. I wanted a less well-known tale, which was not included. But it is a beautiful book, will enhance any child's bookshelf and might even bring that child to read classics, books that endure.

I don't know what IDIOT compiled these and decided to call them

I don't know what IDIOT compiled these and decided to call them "Grimm's Fairy Tales," because that is NOT what they are. I've read the original German and this is NOT a translation, but a dumbing down and a complete WRECKING of the original stories. NO WHERE on the book does it say that these are not the actual stories, but are merely BASED on the stories. These are as close the the original Grimm's fairy tales as Disney is. Don't buy this book if you want the REAL stories. An example of how badly these stories have been reproduced is The Frog Prince. First of all, the original title, Der Froschkönig, translates to The Frog King. Secondly, it's far shorter than the original. Furthermore, the entire character of Heinrich was left out. In addition, the frog's lines of dialogue when he knocks on the door are incorrect. The frog is SUPPOSED to say "King's daughter, youngest," etc. etc. etc. But instead, in this disgusting version, he calls her his princess love. Do not buy this book unless you want something pretty for children you don't think will understand the blood and guts of the actual stories. These are NOT Grimm's Fairy Tales. Not in the slightest. If I was in any position to do so, I would SUE for misrepresentation. No where in or on the book does it say that the stories are abridged or altered in any way, which they certainly have been. Barnes & Noble might want to fix that, or lawyer up.
