Certainly the best book I've read.
Doug Peacock is among the best of our living writers, not only on the subject of nature but of human spirit. His accounts of his time with bears are intense and honest, as are those of his time in Vietnam. His story of spiritual rehabilitation in the last of our American wildlands will ring true for all who spend time alone in remote places. Anyone whose read other 'nature' writers has almost surely heard Peacock's name thrown around, and likely in the best and most admirable way. Pick up a copy of Grizzly Years and you'll understand why people speak of him with so much respect. I know of no better book in print.
