Perfect alt. history for young adults

Those that love Harry Turtledove will enjoy this book! Most of Turtledoves books arent what I'd hand to my neices, but this one is! This work is fantasticly written for a younger audience than most of Turtledove's works. I highly recomend this book you teens and adults alike.

    FANTASTIC

This book is wonderful. Its not as complex as others Turtledove has written so its a good introduction for anyone not familiar with alt. history novels. I found the ideas behind the story enchanting, and I can not wait for the rest in the series.

Gunpowder Empire: a new time travel history

For years fans of H.Beam Piper's 'Paratime' adventures have waited for a great writer to once again open the door of parallel dimensional adventures. With this volume, Harry Turtledove has fulfilled that wish, and set the stage for unlimited further excursions. Taking a page from Robert A. Heinlein's 'Tunnel in the Sky', Turtledove maroons two young adults on a increasingly perilous land. With a dynamic plot, fully developed characters, and and ending that begs for sequels, Turtledove has created another series to delight his legion of admiring readers.

    Another Turtledove Winner

If you ever watched the TV show 'Sliders', you can understand the premise behind this book. I was a bit concerned that this novel might be a poor takeoff on that show. What I learned was that 'Sliders' pales in comparison to this story. I won't give away any of the plotline of the novel (read the 'professional reviews' above if you care to learn a bit about the plotline), however, I will say that Harry Turtledove has created a potential windfall of alternate universe stories using this premise. As usual, Harry Turtledove did his 'homework' prior to writing this novel. His facts are well researched, and the story is very believable. Bravo, Mr. Turtledove!
